Yaris 1.3

Hi. Colour Collection owner here. March '05 and just coming up to 7k miles. I've had a few problems with mine, probably built on a Friday afternoon! ;)

Thing is, all of the little niggles were easily sorted using three little words...

"Three year warranty".

You've got over two years' warranty left so any problems, like the door mirror, can be made to go away pretty fast.

As for the squeaks? I'm a fussy so and so and, after a few trips to Mr T, my Yaris is now a squeak-free zone.

Picked up the car yesterday I can say it seems to be a nice car.

Engine is perky & am averaging 42mpg at the moment. Only issues I've found are rear seat belt latches rattle against trims if not re-stowed after use & there is light bleed from the instrument display when in passenger seat. Minor problems.

Had a bit of trouble fitting the weekly shop in the back so decided to collapse rear seats. Took us 1/2 hour to figure it all out. Ended up having to remove rear headrests.

Sound system is very adequate & will not be upgrading. Sound is acceptable for someone of my age ( wrong side of 40 ).

Loads of storage space inside, which helps the wife store her department store of make-up!

Will try to load some images when I get chance to take some photo's.

Thats about what I get too mpg wise, not bad at all. I get the rattle too from time to time.

Out of interest did you slide the seat forward so it was at the minimum leg room point but with the seats upright still at all first? I find that makes the boot big enough for me :)

Pushed seats forward but still not enough to fit our 15 bags of shopping in ( family of 4 + eldest son's girlfriend to feed )!

Just have to cut down on the luxuries in life & have fewer bags to fit in, or she could use my Avensis.

  • 2 weeks later...

Had the car a couple of weeks now & can say it has impressed me, however, there have been some problems with it.....

1. Found deep scratch on INSIDE of screen, right in sight line. Dealer has offered to pay. Don't like having screen changes though, fit & finish is never the same after.

2. Drivers seat squeaks. So annoying!!

3. Belt tensioner pulley noisy.

4. Rear washer jet very weak spray.

Car is booked in to get these items repaired under warranty. Might leave the screen though till later.

Just hope this is the end of the problems I will have with this car. :crybaby:

Had 1.3 Starlet back in 2001 & was very surprised by the response of the engine, very nippy. Somehow though the VVT-I seems less perky/responsive. Suppose you can't have both perfromance & economy. The Yaris does about 7-8 mpg more than the Starlet ever did.

Just one other thing that annoys me. Rear seat belts. Rattle like hell if you don't put them back in the retainers. :censor:

See i told you you'd hear rattles and squeeks

you'll get used to them

As for your window maybe they'll get someone to polish the scratch out,

it can be done on glass, ask the dealer its better if you dont want a new screen.

Already asked if they could polish, reckon it's too deep. Caused by person with diamond ring trying to clean inside of screen with back of hand. :ffs:

Cant you get scratches in glass filled now, would it be worth taking it to a specialist and getting toyota to foot the bill as they were willing to pay for a new screen?

I find the radio usualy covers up the noise of any rattles, most can be rectified and i would imagine some WD-40 or grease would get rid of squeaks!

CB

Just purchased 1.3 Colour collection 05 plate with 7200 miles, for the wife. Just wanted to know what experiencies you have with this car & if I need to look out for any problems....

In particular, take special note of the RECALL list.

Oh, yes, avoid potholes. :)
