Alarm Keeps Going Off!

Calling all auto electricians!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for any help on this in advance...

I have 2000 GS D4D Avensis .. have owned this for around 2 mths now.. first Toyota, I bought this car for reliability as i do plenty of miles to work every week..

I have a list of problems mounting.. as soon as i get rid of one i seem to uncover another but they are for other discussions ..

My immediate hassle is the alarm, it seems to go off when ever it fancies it, sometimes 2-3 times in the evening. I wouldn't mind so much if i could disable it with the key fob but it takes a lot of pressing the unlock and lock button in every possible random order to stop this VERY LOUD Siren. The unlock on the fob interrupts the siren for a split second.. Eventually with a lot of pressing and plenty swearing :censor: i can disable it, thank God!!

2 weeks ago i replaced the interior light and blew the dome fuse which knocked out the central locking and the radio and i presume the alarm and since this i have an alarm with a mind of its own... I Replaced the dome fuse and all the other stuff is working again

1 Thing i find strange is the interior lights are blowing very often have had 4 in 2 mths. They don't completely go but become very dim...Could i have a faulty switch

I hear the security system is in someway connected to the interior light.. Can anyone confirm this??

I reduced the sensitivity to zero on the TVSS sensor under the drivers dash.. I really thought i had cracked the problem at that stage

Any ideas?

I can confirm interior light and alarm are conneted. My dads 98 avensis had a problem with his interior light that blew and took out has you say the central locking radio etc. He had his light replaced under warrenty and it was fine for about 2 years and the same happed again. I know when they replaced my dads light they swapped the wiring loom has well. He never had the alarm going off by its self tho. On his current 2001 avensis he's not had any alarm problems. Has for my old corolla i thought that had a mind of its own but was just very sensitive was checked by dealer many times with no fault.

Nowhere open until tuesday... ah well i'll just forget about it for now and enjoy the festivities this evening

If you say the bulbs are going dull, I think you may have found the problem yourself pretty much.

If there is a supply problem, causing a drop in voltage this will cause the alarm to behave erratically. It looks like you may have a problem with the Dome supply as they call it.

First check out the interior lamp fitting itself, they are dodgy on these. Make sure everything is ok and nothing is causing a short to ground from the positive supply. If you want to isolate the interior lamp completely, remove the lamp fitting and unplug it for the time being. If this sorts your problem, then obviously it's the lamp fitting that's causing it.

Also, check the fuse bay where the 7.5Amp dome fuse sits, make sure the spade connections are clean and that the fuse is nice and secure.

I will change the light fitting which hopefully will sort the blowing bulbs.. Had the siren disconnected on the alarm as a temp measure .. what an absolute bugger to get to!!!

the siren is located under the drivers side headlamp.... To get to properly you could probably do with taking off the bumper.. Anyhow a mechanic with nimble fingers and a screwdriver removed the side light and felt down for the siren and disconnected it..

!!!!!!!!!!!! Peaceful sleep last night !!!!!!!!!!!!!

He reckoned the siren itself could have been waterdamaged... Yet to be proved untill i recover it..

I will update this thread thereafter...

Thanks for the help..
