Bad Front Traction

Hi guys I need some advice here.

Since buying my gen6ST202 I've been doind some work to improve performance.

So far I've had the whole exhaust system changed to astreight through system by powerflow. Alu induction kit with a cold air feed. And last of a yes a silly chit to fool the air sensor for a bit more power.

The car is amazing with these 3 upgrades. But since I've removed the sensor and replacd it with a chip, I have noticed a big increase performance but I've also noticed that my front wheels don't grip that well any more.

The thing is since the lastupgrade I've done I've lost controll twice in a bend loosing front traction. In a normal streight the car seems to be very light at the front when I take off fast.

Could it be that:

A ) The power increased is too much for my standard body and suspension and I'm having too much air flowing under the car. = not enough down force t the front end. Back seems fine becasue of spoiler.

THus I need a body kit with a front wing to keep the front end down.

B ) The Chip had over written something in the cars computer and messed my my traction controll or power steering and I should simpley remove it? (but reduce my BHP which I love)

C ) The power is too much for my front tyres and I need to upgrade... again! (Whcih I realy doubt because they're new and I've taken the same bends at 30-35mph in the past and had no problems.

What do you think guy?

One thing for sure is that it's not my wheel alignment because I just had them all sorted 2 weeks ago.

the bit to fool the air sensor ???

would it be a 2 bob gizzmo from eBay ?

if it is i'd stop using it , your running on auto choke full time.

your problems i'd say is the time of year and road conditions , tuning a 202 is hard and what you have done will of given no more than maybe 8 to 10 bhp.

you have traction control also ?? mmm was this an optional extra ?

A ) Forget about downforce, most production cars make lift. ;) It's nothing to do with your suspension either (unless you've bent it).

B ) The 'chip' is a 5p resistor that makes your car run too rich all the time (increasing your fuel bills for no extra performance). If it's overwritten anything in your ECU I'll eat my own !Removed!.

C ) Crap tyres won't help, and check they're not over inflated.

I'd say it was due to the winter weather. Drive a bit more smoothly (easy with the right foot) and you should be OK.

Also, your car doesn't have traction control and the power steering is totally mechanical.

I think its unlikely he has got traction control. Its the slippery roads giving the traction problems, not the car

 ;)

haha ok thanks guys. My terminology is bad and i don't have traction controll. I ment PAS.

SO I'll wait till the weather is better before testing the car than.

What do you think my next upgrade should be? I'm thinking of a Voltage regulart and an earthing kit.

If your talking about those ridiculous things on egay, example -CLICKY then IMO i`m afraid your wasting your time and money. Your alternator has a perfectly good regulator. Much better just to make sure everything has a good solid earth connection if in doubt run a seperate wire from the earthing point on the item you want earthed to a good chassis earthing point or direct to the negative terminal on the Battery. Making sure you have good contacts at either end by cleaning any rust/dirt with emery cloth or wire wool. Apply some grease afterwards to stop any rust coming back.

I think you should put your wallet away, and save your money for something useful.

Thanks for the advice guys. That's very true and I have been thinking about that since I've had this ST202 not becasue I don't think it has enough power but I know it has it's limits and I won't go very far should I do it up.

But on the other hand , me being 25 driving for just under a year having a celica as a first car living in London is already pulling my arms and legs on insurance so I have to face it that I con't afford to insure myself on a GT4 for now.

Like a lot of you here in TOC-Celica we like to save or want to get a GT4 too.

But for now my ST202 is already a dream come true.

I'm current'y working on my interier. I've ripped out some of my console and spraying it Alu colour. If I can't do much for performance I guess I could work on the style.

Obviously styling & modifying, inside or out, is all down to personal taste. So good luck with whatever you choose to do. ........ But, it may be wise to keep an eye to the future. If and when you come to sell, your market is going to be limited to people who like the way you`ve styled the car. But anyway it`s your car so enjoy what you do with it. :D

with an exhaust, a filter, and a chip, the increase in power will be very modest. im sure it now sounds like it has a lot more power, but to say that the front wheels can no longer cope with the power is probably wrong.

those eBay chip things are a scam. if there was such a device that gives you up to 20 bhp for 10 quid, every one would have one wouldnt they.

itd be easier to do that, then change your cams, or port&polish your head.

Very true. I guess I'm one of those mugs that don't realy know much about car tuning.

So what does it actually do? I mean I can definately feel a faster throttle with it on. Please, no tech talk. REmember I'm from chana and not very educated

it locks the auto choke on full , thus giving you more fuelling , good for shorts stints , but long term very bad for the engine.
