98' Avensis Engine Management Light

I have a 98 Avensis with a 7 - AFW engine recently it had the waterpump changed at the garage. When it came out the EML came on. When road speed gets to 30mph this goes out.

The coolant system had an airlock, so I called the AA and they sorted this out reall quickly, although when he tried to plug his EOBD in there was no power at the 16 pin socket so could not read the codes.

Can anyone help me with this don't want to pay Toyota prices for a diagnostic.

Hi mate! I don't live too far from you so can give you a hand if you need it, only live in Cannock currently.

If it's the 7A-FE engine you are on about then they aren't OBD in the same way as the newer cars. To read a fault code you simply short a connection in the diagnostic plug in the engine bay, this then makes the engine fault lamp flash the code to you.

If you wanna try clearing the fault lamp, first have a prod around under the bonnet. Unplug any connectors you can find and plug them back in making sure they are secure. Especially where the guy would have been working. Then with the aid of you fuse guide, have a look for the EFI fuse and pull it for about 15 minutes. This will reset the system, and maybe clear your fault.
