Hello every one, this is my first post and i have a confession to make, i don't actually own an aygo.

i'm 17 and looking to buy my first car, and very very interested in buying a 3dr aygo sport, i realise its a realitvly cheep car but with me been a scrooge i need some convincing to spend the money!

i would love if you could give me some advice about the car as i'd rather hear from aygo drivers then a magazine, or just tell me how great it is,

Cheers

Aygo is a good choice and I think the Sport is the model to go for. I would specify air con on the options list, not only for your own comfort but to aid resale.

The Aygo is a good value car - it's group 1 insurance and cheap to tax, you won't get Toyotas claimed MPG fuel consumption but bank on about 53 MPG if you are an average driver. It's so economical that I run mine on Optimax or Tesco 99 RON - it might be of no performance benefit but I figure if it has some cleaning properties alone it's probably worth it.

The servicing costs are cheap (although I haven't had one yet I understand it is about £80 every 10 000 miles). Personally I'm also opting for an oil change every 5000 miles.

The car is a good little runner - it will take a while to pick up speed but you can cruise comfortably at 70. Go to 80 and it gets a bit noisy but bearable - beyond that you are revving high and bit out of your league ! Surprisingly the exhaust note is quite throaty and sounds nice.

Parking and visibility are superb. The boot is tiny (but thats obvious). I love the looks, especially the headlights and flared rear. The only things I don't like cosmetically is the large Toyota emblem on the grille (which is integrated and difficult to change) and the standard aerial which is far too long and ugly, fitting seems non standard as well so I'm having a problem getting a stubby for it. I'm not sure on the rear light clusters either they are a bit ugly and whilst I'm at it the standard tyres are a bit skinny (but then again economical).

I also dislike the amount of rear badging, on Sport you get 4 - 'Toyota', 'T' emblem, 'Aygo' and 'Sport' - all coming off mine in the Summer when I get my debadging hat on !

I went for TTE lowering springs on my car - they aid cornering obviously but also give a 25mm drop - closing the wheel arch gap nicely. They cost about £380 fitted. Cosmetically the car would suit tints as well although I haven't done that yet.

For me the most disappointing thing about the car is that they have cut costs on certain items which you can't help feeling would be better left alone. I would far rather have another few hundred on the cost of the car and not have these niggles but there you go.

The niggles I have found are -

1. Hazard warning lights / rear demist button don't light up

2. Only 1 boot strut

3. Interior light not switched on passenger door

4. No temp gauge

5. Rattly A Pillar plastic

6. Horrible cheap gear knob (easily change circa £17 or so)

7. No boot light

The other 2 annoying things are that it has a very loud buzzer warning if you drive without seat belt on which is annoying if you are just moving the car on the driveway or adjusting in a parking space with no belt on. Secondly some of the interior plastics are cheap and my guess is they won't last long - particularly the sliding controls for the heating and vent system and the interior door handles.

My clip to hold drivers carpet mat to the floor has also broken but it doesn't present any problem and the mat still doesn't move.

I'm conscious that I've picked up on all the negative points - bear in mind it is a budget car. Overall I think it's fantastic and would recommend it - I just wish they would sort these little things out - which doubtless they will on the first revision !

HTH and let us know how you get on.

The original tyres are 155/65-R14

The C1 has Michelins that came out to be better in elan tests.

I do not know the prices of the Contis that you will find on the Aygo and the 107, but if you choose 165/60-R14 Michelins in stead of the 155/65-R14 it costs only 1 euro more, so 5 euros for the whole car...,

but as they make 100 000 C1 a year it's 500 000 euro less to put the 155 tyres.

I ordered my C1 with 165/60-R14 Michelins. You can see in fast cornering that the original tyres suffer...
