:help: Yes I am A greenhorn never had a Toyota let alone an imported one before.

I have no knowledge of working on cars but the time has come as no one around here wants to take on the work.

So can some kind soul send me idiot safe instructions on how to change my engine oil (I freaked when I found there were Two :help: engine oil caps) and at that point stopped.

Am I correct in using w10-40 Oil or am I completely wrong.

As you can see I really need the help even in identifying where the sump plug is.

I'm shocked that nobody will take on such a routine task as an oil change.

I don't personally know what spec of oil you'll need for your Toyota, but surely someone here will be able to tell you.

Import or not, it's just a car, and an oil change is a 'bread and butter job' for mechanics. Sorry I can't be of more help mate.

Hi Kevan,

The only way to learn to service your car is to begin at the beginning and you are about

to save yourself hundreds of pounds.

The oil drain plug will be located at the base of a large sort of oblong shaped box fitted to the underside of your engine. This is called the sump. The sump plug will simply look like a large nut at the very lowest part of the sump. When you have driven the car for about 15 minutes this is the best time to change the oil as being as the engine is warm the oil will flow out the sump outlet much easier and quicker but remember to be EXTREEMLY carefull when undoing the sump plug as the oil will be scoulding hot. At this time remember to change the oil filter at the same time once all the engine oil has been drained and don't forget to wet the new oil filter seal with engine oil before !Removed! hand tight plus an extra quarter to half turn. Don't go mad and tighten too hard with two hands you will likley ruin the seal. As a rough guide simply screw it on one handed as tight as you can then use two hands and screw in a further half turn. When refilling make sure you put the oil in the correct Oil cap! The Oil cap will be ontop of the rocker cover box which is a

rectangular shape, never seen one that has two caps though so make sure what you have been looking at as it might not be the Oil cap!

Whilst your waiting for the engine oil to drain out to save time check the steering resovoir, gearbox wiperwasher bottle for levels. Leave the Coolant level alone until the engine has cooled off completely.

10/50ww oil will be fine but you may study a manual to determine the most suitable for your vehicle but you won't do any long term harm using this engine oil.

If you have power steering DO NOT under any circumstances use engine oil as this will damage the oil seals within the pump and possibly rot the rubber hoses for the steering. For power steering any automatic transmission fluid will be suitable But not engine oil. Always make sure it is topped up to at least the minimum level at all times. In other words when the engine is cold the fluid check should reach the minimum level on the dipstick of the steering resovoir when the engine has been driven for a 15 minute period the level should be close to the max on the dipstick.

Also check that your brake resovoir is topped up and clutch resovoir too. And only use brake or clutch fluid Not engine Oil.

Good time to check the air filter too. keep ya busy while your waiting for all the oil to drain from the engine. lol. The engine oil dipstick should read almost on maximum do not over fill the engine with oil as it can burst the oil seals due to the increased pressure and things start to get more complicated and very expencive then.

Hey presto once you have refilled the engine oil and performed the other checks you have just saved yourself around ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS! That's how much a mechanic will charge you at a garage.

Next service will require the gearbox oil to be changed too!

Hope this keeps you occupied lol.
