Range Not Working

Hi Guys,

Quick post as I'm at work. The "range" on our Yaris Blue has stopped working, all it displays is 0 miles. All the other average consumption things work so there is no problem there. I tried to reset the range too and all it said was "reset ng" which I assume is reset negative?

Any idea's what causes this/how to sort it? I don't rely on it but it is handy to have. Yves has seen it too but we didnt get a chance to sort it before he went back home today.

Thanks

T

Dunno how to fix the problem!

Why do you even want to fix it though? As far as I can tell it's useless anyway, just look at your petrol gauge and when that starts to flash, go and get some petrol!:thumbsup:

Call Mr T (Cheesey Batman 70's theme tune sounds in background) !

It's useful, as I like to see how many miles I can destroy/ squeeze from a tank from time to time. ;)

Sometimes mine gets to be stupid too... but usually I solve it, by stopping it on a hill facing up, pull the handbrake and release all other pedals, then reset it, and unless you have very few gasoline, it shows up the range again =)

usually it shows 0km when the tank is almost empty, and the indicator light starts to flash very fast, then i put some 4 or 5litre, and it doesn't recognize it as a refueling, so it keeps on 0 :P

Its a useful tool actually! ;) When it doesnt mess up!

I agree with John - Mr T is the best bet - run in screaming "warranty job" and they'll see to it - maybe a faulty connection or something?

Right, just before you dash off to Mr T. try this...

Park on the flat. Switch off the engine and reset the average mpg, the average mph and then the range.

I've always taken 'NG' to mean 'not guaranteed' but that's only a guess and yours is as good as mine! It can give you this if you are travelling when you do a range reset. No, I know you shoudn't be fiddling with buttons whilst actually driving, I mean at lights, in a traffic jam or whatever.

If the range display doesn't get its act together after this, then adopt Em's "run in to Mr T, screaming" plan.

very awkward way to do it is take the wires out the back, leave it a few seconds and put them back in, but it involves taking your dash apart, easier way is to disconnect the Battery but that resets everything.

I would go with the Battery disconnected as well or even better, if you know what fuse the radio uses take that out for a few minutes and replace to reset it.

Because it was working before and now it's stopped! Like I said before:

I don't rely on it but it is handy to have.

I already reset trip A on the odometer when filling up and use that to judge when to fill up but the range is something which is handy to flick onto quickly when driving.

I'll try the idea's on here when I go fill up later too, but yeah if it doesnt sort it then a visit to MrT will be in order! It'll be the 1st warranty trip needed if we do have to go there too which isnt bad at all ;)

UPDATE:

Went to Sainsbury's tonight & filled up, reset Trip A and the average speed/consumption too but the range said 0miles still after restarting the engine! Pressed reset, car said "reset ok" and then went up to 307 miles, forgot to check if it had reduced when I got home tho but I assume it's fine again. Perhaps it was where there was only 2 bars worth of fuel in the tank before it wouldnt reset?

Anyway it's all sorted now (I hope), thanks for the help peeps.

Told ya. The only thing you needed to do was reset them all with the engine off. Trip A has nowt to do with it by the way, it just records the number of miles you've travelled. Nothing to do with the two bars either, mine did it not that long ago with a full tank!

Al had the same problem

Incidentally, since then, it's worked better. Recently I was on four bars on the gauge (half a tank) and the range read 164 miles. As I get 330 miles range from a full tank, it now seems the the gauge and range computer are talking to each other again!

I know Trip A has nothing to do with it ;) it's just an odometer to show how many miles have been travelled...I use it to primarily judge when to fill up again. I meant it like I had reset everything that's all. Seeing as I have Yves who is full of technical know-how I am getting taught all kinds of technical stuff very well :thumbsup:
