Windom Engine running rough.

Hi, I live in NZ and own a windom. Nice car, BUT, the engine has just started running very roughly!

Any reasons why this might be?

few questions for you

Does the engine sound rough when warm?

What Engine oil do you use?

When was the last time you changed your oil and how many miles have you done with the oil you have at the moment.

describe the sound as best as you can... ie knocking, pinging etc etc.

Steve,

Thanks for your quick reply.

We just purchased the vehicle from a friend.

Engine sounded great. Purred very smoothly.

Then we purchased a tank of petrol (91 octane, which was what the friend used)

and the engine began to run roughly.

Hesitating. like only 3/4 of its cylinders were firing.

this is true at idle, and at any speed up to 100kph. Havent tested above that speed.

no pinging or knocking sound. it's just cutting out.

power on acceleration doesn't seem to be too much affected,

but it's just not the purring sound it used to be.

Mileage: 135,000k

91 windom G

not sure what oil has been used. what do you recommend?

how would we go about finding a good

windom diagnostician?

what equipment should they have.?

does the diagnostics hookup on the engine usually tell the story of most problems?

I checked with the petrol station from which we purchased the petrol to see if others had complained of a bad shipment, and was assured that I was the only one to say anything...

if I've got a dirty fuel filter is that something I can change out myself?

gratefully,

new windom owner

I suggest taking the car in for a full service. You should use Semi synthetic oil that Castrol make (magnatec)

Also have the fuel filter changed.

If it is a jap import then you should try and get the closest to 100 octane as possible as your car will be tuned to accept that type of fuel.

If it is not then try and seek advice there in NZ as I am in the UK it will be different as mine is jap import.

Also check for splits in the air intake.. this can cause problems with the car if there is too much air by passing the regulator

A full service at a proper garage will diagnose your problem. My garage cannot use a Diagnosis machine on my car for some reason... plug being wrong (apparently)
