Hey everyone,

I'm looking in to getting a 87 MR2 mk1. It has 140,000 miles on it so I'm not sure how many miles the engine has left in it. I was wondering what other engines fit in it or even better if anyone knows of a good site where I could go to recearch it myself. I'm looking for a JDM turbo if there is one I just don't know much about them but I am interested thanks for your help.

If you've got the standard Mk1 enginer (4a-ge) and it has been looked after there is no reason why it wont last another 140,000k. I have seen opther examples still playing on track at 283k plus.

There are people who have fitted the MK2 Turbo engine in (3s-gte) although it's a pain but you could aim foor 200Bhp by dropping the Mk1 Supercharger (4a-gze) engine into the car as a straight swap, although new loom etc needed...

Yes, Ryan is right. a 3sgte is a massive job. The best straight forward swap (hahaha, that makes it sound easy!!) is a late jdm supercharger conversion. Should give 165bhp as stock, and around 190bhp with a large pulley conversion. Think it is £1250+VAT for a conversion (complete engine +loom and ecu, intercooler) But to get the best results, you should relocate the Battery to the front to allow better airflow through the ic. Unfortunately there was never a turbo 4age. The 4agze will turbo very very well, just a lot of custom work (manifold etc) then you can aim for 250ish bhp on stock internals. Some run even more then that!

I have done a engine swap on a MK1 as you may know there were 2 versions of them the easiest way to tell them apart are the vents different shapes. I have the early version and have put a later version engine in an modifications which need to be done since i have the old gearbox in it?
