Why Is There A Japanese Production Car Limit Of 276bhp?

for the same reason all bmw, mercds and audis have a 155 mph speed limit - its like a gents agreement though its all <the spuds of lurrrrvve>s the bnr34 skyline actually has like 320 bhp instead of the 276 printed

Nope, your wrong there mate...

The reason is the Japanese touring car championships (or sports car, i forget the correct name)...

They were split into 2 groups - the [production power] 300bhp+ which featured everything from Ferraris, porsches etc...

The other was sub 300 - and much more popular with the viewing public.

So, people like Nissan, Toyota etc, rated their cars at 275-ish bhp to be within this category, even if the cars themselves were near the 300 mark actually, as long as it was within a margin of error, it was allowed..

That allowed the supras and skylines to dominate the championships.

By the way, a lot of people say its a 'gentlemens agreement' for japanese manufactuers, but there is no actual evidence to this - whereas, i have read (somewhere) about the championships, looked up the facts, and it appears to be the most plausable explination...

from what i heard, it never did ;)

Indeed...seeing as uk supras were 326bhp anyway...

it never existed over here :P hence why a UK supra is more

its as fidgets stated, it was to do with the JGTC road car homolgation
