I had a similar problem on a Volvo 240. Turned out to be a bracket had moved and was fouling the stering column. Could be a couple of things though. Check to make sure nothing is fouling the flexible U/J where the steering column comes through the bulkhead. (Engine side)

Might be best to put it up on axle stands and watch the steering gear while you move the wheels lock to lock. Feel for any notchiness. And listen for clicking etc. Could be wear in the rack.

It sounds like the pas pump is not keeping up with the workload when you turn the wheel fast, whilst moving at slow speeds. It could be the drive belt slipping momentarily, or a weak bit in the system (knackered pump, sticking relief valve or servo valve). Normally you would hear a chirp or squeal if the belt was slipping. I guess you could have got the belt wet during washing it.

Does it happen even when the engine is turning over faster than 2k rpm?

Are there any noticable noises?

Replacing the pas fluid might help, depending on what the problem is.

Why do i always look for the worse case scenarios??? Eternal pessimist i guess. Of course Mikes probably right.

[forget to say i'd noticed that the pas fluid was at min yesterday so i topped it up]just rung the bloke up who works on my car and he said with it being at min and with me topping it up there would be some air thats got in the system and causing the hydraulics not to work properly or something. so he said start it up and turn ur wheel into full lock and full lock on the other and keep doing it slowly.that should fix it.

Sounds quite likely. It's very possible that there is some air in the system if the fluid had run low. Although I would have though it would need to get very low before air is drawn in - mine often runs down to below min, even to the bottom of the reservoir (I have a leaky pump), but I've never had air locks.
