:help: the central locking , locks OK from the key/remote fob. It does not unlock however: the hazards flash as normal, the interior light comes on, but the doors don't unlock. I open the drivers door with a key and operate the drivers door lock master switch and all the doors unlock. can anybody give clues as to where the problem lies. its almost as if a diode or relay contact has failed , possably on the remote reciever unit (wherever that is situated. bet its behind the dashpanel, nice n easy to get atjava script:emoticon(':ffs:', 'smid_11')

Have you noticed if the door make any effort to unlock? Like for example, unlock then lock straight away? Or just the drivers door does this and the others don't?

the interior light comes on and the hazards flash, when I use the remote

all doors remain locked. no attempt by any soleniod to unlock. I have to open drivers door, then switch the ignition ON, release the master switch on drivers door, then all soleniods unlock. I suspect that the unlock signal from the remote reciever is not present or the wire/connection is broken. Do you know where the remote reciever is located in this 1999 Avensis gls estate.

Hi tapbuster

Got same problem , the doors are also unlocking on their own after a while so the car ends up being unlocked most of the time. not sure how to stop that happening. not sure could it be the control unit?

It could be the central door locking switch (the one by the electric window switches) on the drivers armrest playing about....

Do the doors lock and unlock ok using this switch?

Another thing to try (while sitting in the car) is to lock the car using the fob and unlock using the switch and vice versa.

im also having the same problem. The doors just unlock themselves. When i am in the car i can sometimes hear the central locking trying to unlock the car. Does anyone know what the problem is? its quite worrying to think that my avensis will simply unlock itself over night :!Removed!:

Sounds like your osf drivers door latch has failed matey. Try locking car with key. If only drivers door locks and others remain unlocked, you're looking at a faulty osf door latch mechanism.

There are two faults that come to mind. First possibility is the loom broken as it passes through the drivers A post on it's way to the door lock/power window switches. Several wires could be broken and touching, hence the random unlocking. Second the integration relay could be faulty. The fact that the indicator lights flash and the interior light comes on means that the wireless doorlock receiver has sent the unlock signal, but the integration relay has failed to act on this signal. Test is by substitution. Regards Ray

Any idea where this integration relay would be on a 99 Terra is and what it looks like.

What's a Terra?

It would be a GS model in the UK I think, it's a 1587cc. They just give them different names over here, I'd say it's because our model would have a lower standards then the same UK model
