Question About Mk Iv N/a Supras....

Are they any good??

Someone has offered me this .... link In exchange for my mr2.

I am kinda tempted in a way because I do love the Supras... but what are the n/a's like to drive? I would obviously have preferred to have had a TT instead of the n/a.

How feasable is a TT engine transplant in the future? How much would a TT engine cost for one of these??

Mmmm.... I am tempted.

Any advice very greatfully received!!!! THANK YOU!

leeky will be best one to chat to hes had both but i dorve his na for a small distance and it was a nice ride and no lag i hate lag

if you wanted a turbo fitted later mate a single turbo is a much better option,

oh and leaving it stock, you won't be dissapointed mate!

its sweeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

looks like a very nice car mate, i would seriously think about the swap.

by the way, its got a bomex front not a veilside. i would change the wheels to larger ones tho. they do look alittle out of place. 18" me thinks.

keep us posted.

p.s. i wouldnt even think about a turbo conversion!!!!!! way too much money..............if u want a turbo acr......but a tt version. lot cheaper option in the long run.

u would need the wiring loom, ecu etc etc as well as the engine.

big money.

what i would suggest is u take it out for a spin, if u like it buy it........u can always sell it in the future and upgrade to a tt. i should be worth more than ur mr2??

If your gonna get an N/A then i'd get a 5/6 speed manual.

My 5 Speed non turbo was faster off the lights than my auto uk tt (although my non turbo was stripped).

Get a lot more power off the mark on the manual. 2JZGE (Non turbo lump) is about 230bhp.

But! With the way the market is at the moment i wouldnt pay any more than £5500 for a manual non turbo :thumbsup:

What should my first modifications be?

Like a lot of naturally aspirated cars the first step to better performance is to improve the breathing of the engine.

It's generally accepted that the air filter assembly on a MKIV from the factory is very good and the only improvement that can be made is to fit a freer flowing element from the likes of K&N or TRD.

This leaves the exhaust side which is very strangled thanks to the two catalytic converters. Removing both of these will result in a respectable hike in performance but will not please the MOT tester when the time comes around. At least one catalytic converter will need to be refitted to pass the emissions test.

What are the correct spark plugs for my NA?

Toyota recommend Nippon Denso PK16R11 or NGK BKR5EP11. If the car becomes heavily modified you should consider a slightly colder plug.

Can i fit nitrous oxide to my NA?

Yes, nitrous oxide can be fitted to an NA car and may be a good alternative to more expensive tuning paths.

Can i turbo charge my NA ?

Yes and no , now there's a politicians answer!

It is not generally accepted as practical to retro-fit the twin turbo system from a TT onto an NA as there is a lot more work involved than may be appreciated.

To give an idea of the work involved the following would need to be transferred as a minimum:

Head including cam's valves and various sensors

Intake manifold and pipework

Intercooler and ducting

Engine wiring loom incluing ignition system

Turbo's along with manifold and all sequential valve gear

ECU

A more practical option is to fit a small turbo charger to the NA engine as it stands and work with that.

This may well involve swapping the headgasket to alter the compression ratio and then using a piggyback to alter the stock ECU maps, but all in all is a fair site easier than retro fitting the TT system.
