Hello,

I got a previa year 2000, automatic gear, model 2.4 vvt Petrol.

When i drive about 60 km/h and release the the speeder, it drops to 500rpm and the engine breakes, and then the rpm's goes up to around 1500rpm.

On my model there is a PWR HEAT, and when i activate this the problem gets more bad.

Do any one have any like this problem on the new model af previa.

Can i find a list of problems people had on this model ??

(sorry for my bad english)

sounds serious, you need to get your previa into a toyota dealers for a diagnostic check

It was at the dealer yesterday, but they could not find any errors on the computer.

Maybe he says it could be the ignition coils, he told me there is 4 pieces.

The problem is it's a automatic model, and in Denmark 99% of the cars sold is Manuel transmission.

The car drives perfect, when acceleration, but got this error when releasing the gas/speeder.

It has only gone 109000 km....

it wont be the ignition coil packs then, if youre car drive fine. One of my coils broke once and the car ran slow, and the CEL came on.

doesent sound nice, on thursday next week toyota is going to change the ignition coils.. I hoped it would help, but now :-( ...

It's going to be changed at warenty, soo i dont have to pay for the service...

Do yours have a buttom called pwr heat ??

At least you have warranty, thats good.

I dont have a PWR heat button, where is it in the car and what does it do? maybe you can send me a pic kevshek@blueyonder.co.uk

It a buttom, thats gives ekstra chokker when it's cold, makes the engine run 2000rmp's until the engine is up to running temperature, it's placed next to the seat heat, at my car to down, left of the stering. (european model, left driver model)

I will send you a picture one day :-)

strange that, we dont have it here in the UK, well not on my 2000 and its the same spec as yours. Sounds like what we call a manual choke, like you said, give more fuel to air for cold start. Most cars today use electronics to control fueling and do all this automatically, so its a bit strange to me why its on your car.

going back to your problem, if when your car engine is hot, and the PWR heat is on, it may cause over fueling. This is why your problem is worse when you switch it on. It this is the case, then maybe the fueling mixture of the car could all be wrong. You need to have your fuel injection system checked, everything from fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, oxygen sensors, air fuel ratio sensors, fuel pressure. All if this should be computer controlled and should not go wrong. If it does go wrong, then the CEL comes on.

Do you know what and where the CEL (Check Engine Light) is? and is this on now?

There is no warning lights, you mean in the little dash board, where the low fuel indicator is right ?

Some other mechanics i talked to, mean it could be the idle speed controller step motor...

But still i hope the problem gets better on thursday, when it goes to the toyota dealer.

... nb. Nice project/job you have made with your previa, how much did you pay for that compressor kit ??

I have an imported 2002 auto Estima (Japanese Previa) which has the power heat button too. This basically allows more fuel into the engine and is used in colder weather to raise the engine revs and warm the engine up a little quicker, so my thoughts are the same as P11GT - something is not right with your fuelling system and needs to be diagnosed by Toyota.

A little update on my problem, today the Engine Light begin to light, soo i look forward to see what Toyota says on Thursday..

Hopefully the error is the ignition coils, i think the car is a bit slow at the moment... Hard to say becaurse i only had the car for 2 days when i notiched the error..

I will post when the cars has been at toyota on thursday.

Update :

I got my Previa back from toyota, they have changed the ignition coils.

They have reset the computer error, they told me it was someting about a oxygen mesuring device, and maybe it have to get cleaned one time more ??? (Why didn't they change it, if it was broken ??).

But still not driving well :-( , this dealer doesent seem to know what the problem is, soo i will try another toyota dealer next week.

I would also try to make a .mpg movie showing the error, and post it here, together with the picture of the PWR Heat buttom.

chances are, there was nothing wrong with the coils in the first place, i believe that the oxygen sensor is broke giving the ECU the wrong reading and therefore the wrong fueling to the engine. They may not want to change the sensor as it costs too much, but i think you need to go back and tell them to do it. There are 4 sensors in total, make sure they find which one is broken and fixx that one.

I cant say its a common fault but the oxygen sensor failing on the new previas has happended to quite a few people.

here, read this thread, it will explain others having similar problems

A little update to my Previa Problem..

The air volume sensor, placed in the air intake has been change.

New Catalysator put on.

New Ignition plugs

But still the same problem... when taking the foot of the gas, the engine drops to 500-600 rpm, and engine is braking, and goes up to about 1200-1500 rpm...

Sorry about the missing picture and movie... i will try to get this on soon as posible..
