Sorry for the real stupid question but does the ST model number (like st202 or st205) just refer to the generation or something else? So for instance are all gen6 GT's - ST202's and all gen6 GT4's - ST205's??

For example .. the GT4's were the ST165(gen4), ST185(gen5) & ST205(gen6) .. the Caldina (GT4 Avensis in Japan - 265ps uber wagon) was the ST225 ..

ST202 is made up like this -

First letter is Engine Model (3S-GE, 3SGTE, 5A-FE)

Second letter is Chassis Model ( JZA80, ST202, AW11)

any numbers after that reffer to the shape.

So for example the ST202 will be S - S type engine, T - Celica FWD/4WD layout and 202 which is the shape designation.

The 1.8 celica gen 6 is an AT200. A (5AFE) T (As above) & 200 (almost identical to the 202 but has very slight chassis and rear tailgate)

Apologies if im loosing you on this, hard to explain.

Another example -

Supra MK4 is the JZA80.

JZ is the engine (as in 2jzgte), A is the chassis version (RWD Type) and the 80 reffers to the shape.

If Toyota fitted the 3SGTE engine from the Celica into the Supra then it would be an SA80.

Also if it was the other way around (not that it would fit) and you put the 3.0 Twin Turbo engine into a Celica GT4 Gen6 - it would become a JZT205

On the MR2 side of things

AW11 - 4AGE, MidEngine(W)

SW20 - 3SGE, MidEngine(W)

ZZW30 - 1ZZFE, MidEngine(W)

and the FE is economy head, GE sports head, GTE sports turbo'ed head

Almost - Except the 1.8 gen 6 has the 7AFE not the 5! :P :D

Seriously though - it was interesting to read exactly where it came from
