Hi people

Just wondering, i was giving my car a decent clean earlier when i noticed a plug loose in my engine bay, its a single grey plastic plug that has a single cable attached, the cable is green and black. It hangs just above the gearbox and is tied to some other cables I was just wondering what this is for, i have looked around the area where the cable reaches, and there seems to be no where where it could have come from? does anyone have any ideas, its a 1995 E10 3 door 1.3 16v 4E-FE Sportif, any help appreciated

thanks people

have a look at the terminals, do they look like they have ever been attached to anything? there are sometimes lots of extra connectors on looms.

the manufacturer will usualy produce 1 or 2 looms for a model as saves cost but does mean that there are a few extra plugs

I would do as dawesy suggests first and check the contacts on the plug to see if they are corroded (in which case they are likely a surplus plug on your car), or are nice and shiny (in which case its probably just fallen off something).

The only thing I can immediately think of thats generally in the gearbox area is the reverse light switch and its attached cable - its easy to check if this is the one you've got loose by having someone check to see if your reverse lights come on when you are in reverse gear. Have had experience of one of these types of switches coming loose on a Renault 19 I used to have, but I think normally they are under the gearbox not on top of it - don't have any info on your car tho.

If the car starts and runs as per usual, its unlikely to be anything desperately important - if it was an engine sensor you would likely notice the difference, so don't panic too much if your car still works :)
