if you want a turbo engine in your rolla (good choice BTW) then you will be looking at either a 4A-GZE with turbo conversion or (and im biased on this) a 3S-GTE. niether are cheap conversions but both will give reliable power, wich is more than can be said for bolting a tubby on a std engine.

with the turbo GZE power will top out about 200bhp on uk fuel, with a 3S-GTE on optimax (assuming you fit a rev 3 lump) you can get 310-320bhp without opening up the engine, stick in a set of forgies, upgrade the fuel system and add a good turbo and 500bhp should be seeable (thats about what my AE-92 will have by about the end of feb).

a GZE conversion will see around £3-4000 leaving your pocket a 3S-GTE conversion will lighten you of about £5-6000.

if you need any more advice just ask.

cheers

lee

It'd be more beneficial to fit a Starlet 4e-fte instead of trying to turbo your 4e-fe

That'd be a quality Rolla then! :D

i thought about doing that. but at the end of the day, it'll only be about 130 bhp which isn't alot really considering the conversion will cost roughly £2000 -£2500 or maybe more.

coz its a turbo, you'll have to get a scoop on your bonnet too which cost a lil bit. once you have stated to the insurance company that you had a engine conversion, the insurance will shoot right up!! prolly reaching group 16-17 ive heard.

if i was to use £2000-£2500 i prolly get a EG6 or a CRX-VTI, they'll easy be 160bhp.

dont get me wrong, i'll love to turbo mine too but its not really that worth it for me as im a poor student.

insurance isnt nessesaraly too bad. i was paying £400 fully comp on a std AE-92 now , with all mods declared its only gone to £770. now considering that not one bit of the car is std, well not a lot of it anyway, i dont think its too bad. bang for buck the 3S-GTE is the way to go

There are guys on the starlet gt turbo forum who have got easily 200hp and are whooping s2000'Z by 3-4car lengths on 1/4mile.

what some have done is wacked on a tdo4 and off they go (obviously with other mods too), a girl even managed 6.1sec 0-60 with 200hp with a CRAP set up!! so the 3efte has HUGE potential!! and you dont need a bonnet scoop, just go for fmic instead(front mount inter cooler)

I think it would be cheaper to turbo the current engine, maintaining a Turbo and a charger would be LOT of headache and COSTLY too!!

I was thinking about turboing mine hopefully oneday, just need the low comp forgies, turbo kit, fmic, engine management and a few other bits and bobs

:ffs: :ffs: :ffs: ppl as a great man once said 'there is no replacement for displacement' corolla's get a supercharger or 3S-GTE for 'max power'. Ok repeat after me 'I will buy a fast engine for my car (n/a) then tubro it' A fast car starts with a fast engine, not a slow enigne then whack a big turbo on it!!

A COROLLA IS NOT A STARLET !!!

There a lot more to it.....

What about the psi your -fe head can take? also the main bareings, con rods, and what head gastket would you use ??? any of these could make that nice fast car just a 1 tonne paper wieght.

If you want to go very fast when you need it, for the 'odd' race then no one can fault spending £500 on a NOS kit. IT WILL harm your engine, it will add around 30-50bph in an instant. But remember it is where you have 'lift' that counts in street/drag racing.

A lot of us have put a lot of money and research into what is the best for a corolla in terms of speed, performance , and lasting for the next 20 years..... and dawesy is master LISTEN TO HIS WORDS!!

dyu know i was thinking, Turbo kit, pistons, engine rebuild, thats guna cost waay over 2000, so i suppose would be better to go for the 4agze to start with :-)

im with adrian flux. they were about the only company that gave me a sensible quote and would insure it.

policy is limited to 5000miles a year, £8500 agreed value, europe assist recovery. and new for old, like for like ,ie unlike some policys if someone nicked my engine, i would get a new 3S-GTE to the same spec as the one stolen. if you tell them you are a member of an owners club this sometimes helps. at 20 its not going to be cheap but as you are putting in the same engine size, make and type it may not make too much difference. they were more bothered about power increase than mods to be fair, although with a mappable ecu this could be anywhere from 100-1000bhp so not really relavant

the 4efte and the 4agze will both bolt into an ae111 chassis without too much bother (once you have all the parts needed). the 3sgte will be a bit more involved. you can forget about the 3sgte if u are a student...your talkin big money there. the 4efte has been done in corrollas over here with success....but if i were you, i wouyd defo buy the 4agze package from fensport...jbm...or somewhere else if u can source it. it costs trhe same as the 4efte package, but it has a "G" head, and will stand up to more punishment, and boost.

if your heart is really set on a turbo...you can simply boly a turbo and manifold on...and then, with a little bit of tinkering with the standard 4agze ecu, u can run turbo on standard engine. try and get the levin ae101 engine if you can.
