My RAV4 is dark blue. I have been quoted £325 to have unpainted sensors fitted ot an extra £35 (seems a bit steep) to have them painted before fitting.

Will the unpainted (ie black) sensors look like "monstrous carbuncles" or is it a waste of money paying the extra £35?

Thanks

I have the same blue with colour matched sensors and they look great. Personally I think if you are spending £325 its worth spending a little extra to make the installation look professional.

(I always think that non colour matched sensors on a car looks a bit DIY)

In the end you pays your money and makes your choice :-)

My last car was IS200 in blue, the parking sensors were black, and looked just fine unpainted  .

I've just bought a set to fit myself and was wondering about painting them.

Does a thin layer of paint affect the performance of the sensors significantly?

i would get them painted, personally i think it looks awful when they arnt. obviously your car is darker than a silver but still get it done

From a site that markets these:

Q. What is the best way to colour code the sensors?

A. Before fitting to the vehicle, mount the sensors in a piece of cardboard and apply two thin coats of spray paint followed by one thin coat of lacquer (for metallic colours). Do not apply the paint with a brush and do not apply too thickly.

Seems simple enough I guess.

Have now had sensors fitted -glad that I decided to have them colour coded. I got the job done at a garage that gives gold members a discount .

The cost including colour coding and a cancellation switch ( in case I get a tow bar fitted and want to tow something) was less than a non discount giving garage would have charged for unpainted without the switch. A plug for getting gold membership!
