Converting Jdm Rears To Uk Rears With Fog?

JDM ST205.

Comes as standard with no fog. So the fog usually ends up under the bumper when they come into this country. How easy is it to convert the fog into the rears? Can you do it with the JDM's or do I need to get UK rears?

Any pics showing what wiring needs to be changed would be most appreciated

one way of doing it would be take the wiring for the fog light and replace the reverse light with the fog light

as a reversing light is not required for the mot test.

otherwise you could do what i did which is place the fog light on a swinging bracket cant be seen unless you pull it down during foggy conditions.

ime not absolutely sure about mot legality ie height and positioning but my tame mot inspector is doing a service on my van 2moro so i will ask him.

reversing light is definately not part of the mot though so that is a viable alternative.

hope that helps

It does yes. I had thought the same about the swinging bracket, but I'm sure some people have integrated it into the clusters somehow.

Here is what you need to do...

Remove the lights, you will see there are 4 brake lights on the Imports clusters.

Remove one bulb on each side so that you will only have 2 brake lights (UK cars only have 2). Cut the bulb holders off and connect the two end of the cut cable together to complete the circuit.

Now run your cabling for the fog light but instead of running it to one of those caravan style ones that hang under the rear bumper - run the cables to where you removed the two bulbs.

Now you connect the bulb holders that you cut off to this cable and buy bulbs of the side size as the brake lights but with a higher watt (so they are brighter).

Now refit these into your cluster and re-attach to the car.

Fit a switch and you should be done.

Now you will have 2 brake lights instead of 4 (just like the uk cars) and the other two will lights up as fog lights.

Yep, thats the best way to do it, run an extra wire. You can also preserve the 4 brake lights if you put a diode in the circuit instead of just cutting the wires. This give you all 4 brake lights, but two of them are also connected to the fog light and stay on permanently with the fog light switch. Best of both worlds.

Gonna keep the caravan style lower fog light at the mo cause am up to my ears in mechanical servicing, bearing replacement etc, but thanks for the suggestion with the diode MikeB. I will look at this later on. I prefer the four brake lights and this seems win win all round
