Magnetic Oil Plug?

I read somewhere that it`s not the best idea to have one..... Something to do with oil flow and complicated physics stuff. Way over my head.... Quite apart from which, If i`ve got lumps of metal floating about inside my engine, I don`t want to know.... I`m depressed enough already.

Yeah, to be honest i'd think that if i had bit of metal floating about in my oil then surely they would just come out with an oil change....dont see why a magnet is needed.

I have used magnetic oil drain plugs on several previous vehicles and never had any problems with their use.

They are used in aircraft gearboxes.

It is possibly a good thing to know when the steel engine parts are wearing, but I think that by the time anything shows on the magnetic plug, it may be too late :(

got one on the mr2, after two oil changes i found a few 'fillings' and fragments stuck to it, after that its been pretty clean in there

i dont see how it can do any harm in any way though

I have heard a few people complaining that they don't fit properly!!!!!!!

If you havea decent oil filter that will pick everything up anyway, but if they do fit, I can't see them doing any harm.... if anything it will stop tiny filings clogging the oil pickup...
