Right guys. Here's some pix.

got sub in the boot. 6x9 pioneer emotion's on parcershelf (although i recon you should mount em on mdf or get a stealth shelf cos they sound a bit pants on the original shelf) and the emotion's in the front. :)

Woody... don't fret about where bass/treble direction... bass is non-directional.... wherever the sub goes, the bass will find you. (Sounds like an advert for a dodgy dance cd!)

Components will probably give you better sound quality, but coaxials are still fine. 17's in door, then 10's in the dash. That works fine for the front... use decent Speakers... 2-way are fine, three way are better (don't worry about sound seperation... have a look at your Speakers at home, the Speakers in a cinema/theatre/club... the bass, mid and treble cones are all in one unit... makes no difference.) Then make sure that the power level is adequete for your amp and your needs.

Then, add some rear speakers... although fronts are still fine by themselves (with an under-seat sub) the rears will balance the sound throughout the car. But, beware with 6*9's as they are generally quite powerful and can pull the soundstage to the rear of the car, which is bad, as your ears aren't designed to listen backwards... keep the power at the front.

A sub under the seat is an excellent way to add much extra depth and bass to the yaris system... iv had one for over a year now and once you get it set right, then it's brilliant, nothing over the top, just makes it sound proper and crisp (although it can be overloaded by hip-hop (50cent, Nas, Herbiliser etc), some older rock music (aerosmith, black sabbath, ZZ Top etc) and certain dance tracks (chemical brothers, jamiroqui etc)

To solve this, i added 2x1000w JBL subs to my boot... kept on a low setting and minimum frequency, they only cut in when required... superb!

Don't listen too much to individual recommendations on manufacturers (unless there are quality issues as in they break too much!) as all manufacturers ahve different sounds and all speakers have different sounds, just like everyones ears hear things differently, so what sounds good to Mr X, may sound horrid to Mr Y.... often because they're tone deaf or just a twerp.

Have fun in building up your audio... I had fun anyway and even more fun now listening to it!

Firstly, thanks for putting the links to the pics, they look pretty awesome.

Secondly, seveer, I'm thinking of getting an under seat sub, would you say this is enough for the moment? I've got 2 rear Speakers (12.5cm), and will upgrade the in dash and door Speakers to components, but you say it doesn't really matter? Surely there must be some gain in sound clarity if you have components?

As for your two subs in the back, do you have much boot space?

Tim love that Sub!!! Does the front speaker grill no longer fit over the emotions as imo would look better with it on!

Wow cheers man thats really handy! Those JBL subs sound like they would over power the system at 1000W each but i suppose they only come on when you need em like you said! What sub have you got under your seat out of interest? (size etc) O and what Amps are you running as they are obviously needed but it seems you dont need to power a speaker to its max.

Out of interest, how much did your whole system cost? Im a student on a student budget you see so as much as i crave sound quality i may have to go for a downsized version of yours. How would you list the Audio components in order or bang for buck? I guess you would start with HU?

Cheers again mate!

Yeh it still fits :), just taken taken it off to take the picture. I mounted the amp on the back of the sub box to save space. Its a legacy 400w 2 way bridged. The subs rated at 1200w max and 350w rms so the sub is cool power wise ;)

I have no boot space, except for maybe a small rabbit, but that's a stupid idea. I can always just take one of the subs out though if i need boot space... but the back seat is fine!

There will be a gain in sound clarity from components, but they're generally pricier and require a tad more wiring, plus, the added mid-range of 10cm coaxials in the dash makes the sound nice and rounded... there's no harshness that can occur with components that aren't balanced into the system correctly.

Oh, the under-seat subs are great... mine is anyway (Kenwood one, but alpine iv heard is pretty good) it's good because it just adds that extra wumph that the yaris system requires.

Well, the JBL's are only being powered by a 600w amp, and both that and the 1000w are maximum figures, the RMS is much lower. They would maybe over power the system if i let them, but they're fine as they are, just gently pumping along!

The sub under my seat is a Kenwood KSC-WA62RC... designed for small spaces. It's a twin-woofer system, one passive and one active sub, the active being powered by a built-in 100w amp. It's what's known as a WooX system... quite effective for adding bass to the front sound stage. It's also got a remote for it, so adjustments can be made very easily. It can be bought now for about £130 I reckon.

Now... my system, believe it or not, it all runs of the standard headunit!

Iv got a Connects2 device that allows me to plug in my creative zen 20gb MP3 player (£50 device, £150 player)

Iv got 10cm JBL coaxial Speakers in the dash (£30)

There's 17cm Panasonic's in the door (£70 and no longer made... cracking speakers)

There are toyota-fit rear Speakers (£100 when car was bought... bit poor, but they do the job)

There is my under seat sub (£160 when i got it)

Then there are 2x1000w JBL subs in the boot and a 600w JBL amp (£100 from earpl)

Then, there's the wiring which was about £40 worth.

So you see, not that much. That was on a student budget when I did most of that!

I'd say it's best to upgrade the door and dash Speakers first... they're so poor you wouldn't believe. Then add the rears and/or sub(s) and I'd strongly suggest an MP3 player as they're the best thing since sliced bread!

Oh, if i was to do anything else, it'd be a new headunit and a complete re-wire with decent speaker cable, not the bell wire toyota use!
