Tyre Pressure

:help::help:

I have a Celica ST with 16" wheels. The profile is 205/55/16 v91.

The chappy at the garage told me to inflate them to 32psi (I do a lot of motorway miles) and this would be sufficent for what I do.

However the pressure sticker inside the door arch is showing on 205/55/r15 ? to inflate to 35 or 36 psi.

Does this mean I should be running at a higher pressure than the garage stated? Does the V rating make a difference.

Do 15" tyres need higher pressure than 16"???

Sorry if I sound thick but no one seems to be able to confirm.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I looked mine up the other day. I have the 16" Momo Wheels from The SR, which I think from memory are the same size tyre as you have there and they should be 34psi front and rear for normal use.

V Rating doesn't make any difference to pressure - that's just the speed the tyre is rated to go up to.

 Cheers everyone.

The sticker is showing 35 for 4 up but I agree that 34 psi seems to be a lot more responsive since upping them

cheers again

Try reading the tyre as it states the recommended PSI. I always whack 36PSI in mine, on the otherhand I like letting the right hand tyres down to 5 and going round roundabouts fast enough so the car looks like it has no body roll. I normally only do this after a few beers!

Up North due to the fact we are big on drinking, the police dont really mind. In fact just yesterday I was seen hitting a rounabout at twice the speed limit and was pulled over, the police officer said it was a very dodgy manoeuvre, then gave me a can of stella and told me to try again!

The highter PSI on M'way miles can improve economy .. but you can dial in/out understeer by experimenting with front/rear differences too ..

I run slightly less in the fronts than the rears, bit more of a contact patch for them

Carefull, I'm young and easily influenced.

According to the celica owners manual:

7AFE (1.8)

Over 100mph:

Fully Laden:

Tyre size 195, 2.4 bar, 35psi

Tyre size 205, 2.5 bar, 36psi

Reduced Load (1 passenger):

Tyre size 195, 2.4 bar, 35psi

Tyre size 205, 2.5 bar, 36psi

Under 100mph:

Fully Laden:

Tyre size 195, 2.1 bar, 30psi

Tyre size 205, 2.4 bar, 34psi

Reduced Load (1 passenger):

Tyre size 195, 2.1 bar, 30psi

Tyre size 205, 2.4 bar, 34psi

-------------------------------

3SGE (2.0)

Over 130mph:

Fully Laden:

Tyre size 205, 3.2 bar, 46psi

Reduced Load (1 passenger):

Tyre size 205, 2.7 bar, 39psi

Under 130mph:

Fully Laden:

Tyre size 205, 3.2 bar, 46psi

Reduced Load (1 passenger):

Tyre size 205, 2.4 bar, 34psi

Now I don't know what to make of that, but I'm not going over 130mph, and if I did, I don't think I'd have somone climb out n pump up the tyres a bit. I personally run 36psi all round.

Should say on the inside of the drivers door........

But mine says 32psi front and rear for normal loading - 34psi for both when fully laden.

A big thank you to everyone who gave info!

As it stands 34 PSI is really responsive doing 70mph on the motorway (honestly officer it was only 70 ish!!)

Its is a lot more uncomfetable driving around town or to the shops as it notices every pot hole! Can't have it all I suppose.

I do a lot of motorway miles so I suppose the trade off is worth it?

Anyway, thanks a lot everyone , really appreciate your tips (Stella??? I like it!)
