Tyres For St185

I'm driving a 1992 GT4 Carlos Sainz and due to a puncture am running on the silly space-saver thing, as I'm having trouble locating tyres.

Its a UK car totally original (inc the original toyota alloys) running on 215 / ZR 50 / 15 rubber.

Can anyone help with the name of a supplier (Essex would help !) ??

215/50/15's are not an unusual size.

You can get that size at ANY tyre place.

Is there a specific brand you are after?

Be careful as on a 4WD car you should have all 4 tyres of the same make and model or else it will ruin the cars handling and you may suffer diff lock.

I would advise you to get Goodyear Eagle F1's.

If you become a Gold member of this forum you can get a good discount on tyres, i reciently bought 4 Eagle F1's and the discount worked out that i got one tyre for free and then still some saved.

Thanks for this - very strange, my local tyre place (Formula 1) said they weren't available anywhere so I could fit 205's and put them on the front leaving the pair of 215's on the back - I dread to think about the handling (or insurance implications !!) .

Kwik Fit said they'd be a special order at £140 each.

I'm actually a gold member so I see what some other suppliers can offer.

I'll let you know....

Bizarre or not. That was the size the 185 came with as standard.

Most replace them with 205/50x15 But as stated earlier you would have to replace all four or risk transmission damage.

........and now Kwik Fit have said actually they can't get any :crybaby: One dealer said that Dunlop may have some in 4/5 weeks, but they have to fulfil back orders first !

That's :censor: useless when you driving on a SPACESAVER tyre !!

Currently waiting for a very helpful chap at ATS to call back....otherwise, if I have to replace all 4 that's serious damage to the wallet. The missus will probably suggest I sell the car instead !

 My mistake. www.mytyres.co.uk.

Well end result is that nobody, but NOBODY can get me 215/50/15 :crybaby:

However, I have struck a good deal with Toyota to supply 4 Dunlop SP Sport 1 tyres (which seem to have good ratings all round according to the good ol www.) in the size 205/50/15 for £250, fitted. Thanks to Daktari for the mytyres.co.uk suggestion, they were bout £30 cheaper but not fitted, although they had loads of other stuff.

Decided to go for the Dunlop cos they have an excellent noise rating, and I do like to hear the low down burbling & grunt from the motor over the tyre noise - they also look rather nice too :D

So as from tomorrow - FAREWELL :censor: SPACESAVER !!!!!!!!

Picked up the car Friday - Man these tyres are brilliant (LOL) they bring a huge grin to my face - not only does the car go round corners like its on rails, but they are almost completely silent!

I've even had to check our Dennis' MR2 website to sort out some wind noise, (same mirrors/door edge ! as GT4) cos you now notice it more !! - see http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/mr...bsandcures.html

Dunno how they will wear, but they ride so nicely I'd happily by another set in 6 months time !

So if anyone's looking for a tyre recommendation they're Dunlop Sport SP 01 (205/55/15) with a nice looking asymetric tread pattern (improves aquaplaning according to Dunlop)
