Carina E Alarm Problem...imagine That

I was having a problem with my alarm on my 96 Canina E CD. It works fine and the fobs lock and unlock. The problem is that lately I would unlock it. Get in and start the car and drive off. Then every once in a while the alarm would go off and pressing the fob did nothing. It usually stopped on its own within 10- 15 secs. But that's when I duck my head down in embarrasment, as everyone stares at the 'stolen' car driving through town centre in the middle of the day.

I read on one of the other threads about how to keep the fob working but turning off the audio alarm by disconnecting the wire under the washer bottle. So I did that and it is fine. The sound doesn't come on anymore and I can still use the fob to unlock/lock the car.

I'm not too worried about it as I'm not going to do anything more about it, but I just wanted to post it in case someone else has this problem and I was just wondering what could be causing the problem in the first place. I am not very car savvy. Could there be a short somewhere?

Hi MonkeyMD

This may sound silly, but do you lock the doors when you get into the car and then start the engine?

I had the same problem.

I now start the engine and then lock the doors. (Problem sorted)

Hope this helps.

I usually don't lock the doors til after I start the car. It would do it regardless.

Thanks for that though.

Sometimes it will just *blip* after a while and as long as I am driving it will keep sounding the alarm either prolonged or just a little *beep*. It'll stop for a while then do it again. Really weird.

Could the Battery be low.

I had alarm problem with my carina but gave up and disconnected the alarm. It started when reconnecting the Battery although now know a sequence of operations that may get the alarm back up and running. if i can be bothered as I dont think these cars are a high priority for thieves!
