Steaming Up

When ever it is raining my whole car is guaranteed to steam up, every window. Most people say this is due to a water leak but iv checked everywhere and i cant find one. with the amount it steams it must be one hell of a leak. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this problem with the Avensis gs (1998).

I have the same problem with my 1998 Avensis. I've also checked for leaks and can't find any. I used to have a similar problem with an old Peugeot 205 - but that did leak!

I haven't yet found the source of the problem with my Avensis - it's as though it leaks (i.e. on a sunny day after a rainy one, I get can steamed up windows) but it doesn't always seem to happen.

They can suffer with blocked sunroof drains if i remember correct, especially the ones that end up in the boot area. If you pull up the carpet behind the wheel arch area in the boot, there are wells with drain pipes running into them. Check they aren't blocked.

Not sure if your model has aircon or a cabin filter, but its worth checking the cabin filter has been changed. If thats badly blocked up, that will restrict ventilation generally. Worth a check I reckon. Every 2 years is the norm.

celicas do it too, its down to the outside air being cooler than the inside of the car . i washed my car today using the hose on the windows , as soon as the cold water hit the glass the insides steamed over - weird but true.
