Fuel Filter Draining - How Often Is It Usually Required?

Avensis Manual refers to draining the fuel filter on diesel cars when a warning light comes on on the dashboard. Can anyone tell me how often this is usually required?

Also - how do I work out which engine type I have? The manual refers to several engine types but doesn't say how I work out which I have. Can't see anything obvious on the engine, but from the diagrams of the layouts, there only seems to be one that looks similar to mine (which is a diesel 2.0 d4d -year 2002).

The engine number for your car is 1CD-FTV as regards the water draining I've never had the light come on, and there isnt any servicing requirement to do it as far as I know. So my guess is if for some reason you have any excess water in the diesel, the light will come on and you manually drain it as per instructions.
