Not Warming Up - On The Temp Guage

My newly aquired GT4 doesn't seem to warm up on the temp gauge. Off boost and pootling along, its off cold but not by very much. If I get into traffic, or boot it, it will rise to 1/4 on the temp guage, but thats as high as its got.

The car runs fine, so what could it be? My first guess was thermostat, but after an 80 mile run it 'should' be warm, so I have ruled that out.

Any ideas?

Thermostat 100%

Had the same problem on my ST205.

Driving about would be on cold, sit in a traffic queue or boost it and it would move up. Then once you start driving at a normal constant speed it goes back to cold.

Just incase you dont know where it is (as it took me a while to find) it is on the Cambelt end of the engine just underneath the alternator. 10min job, just make sure you buy another gasket as well as a new thermostat as the old one wont be any good

it will be stuck open , more than likely the shaft it rides on will have lost the top clip = common fault on the celicas.
