Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I posted anything on this board, but I'm here because I need your knowledge.

My beloved MR2 Turbo was stolen and written off shortly before Christmas. I've had it back from the insurance plus a wad of cash, and I'm now very interested in buying an ST205.

What I wan to know is what sort of performance am I going to be getting (please bear in mind, my 2 was extremely quick!) in relation to my 2?

I'm looking at spending around 6k on one, so I should get something decent.

Tough one this tbh. As the MR2 is lighter and has the same engine. But the GT4 has the ultimate traction off the line.

The GT4 will lauch a lot quicker than even a Supra Twin Turbo manual. But once the car is up to speed it suffers from the added weight of the extra drivetrain.

The MR2 Tubby is going to reach 100mph before the celica will because it is lighter.

But the main thing about the GT4 is the handling. You can do things in it that would otherwise kill you in a RWD car.

Comes down to what you want at the end of the day.

1400kgs isnt a lot, anyway i've owned 2 Supra mk4's, an MR2 and 3 ST20x's and i can safely say the ST205 is the best handling car i have driven

I've also driven a lot of Evo's etc and even with the AYC the st205 just feels better ;)

1400kgs sounds a lot to me coming from a Corolla @ 1135kgs

Suppose that the fact of double the bhp helps the GT4 tho :D

I read the sw20 as weighing in at approx 1250-1350kgs depending on model.

The ST205 officially weighs in at 1440kgs.

I'd always been told 1275 (rev2 tubby) the rev3's had side impact, airbags etc. So that sounds right.

100kg = 220pounds = 15.7 stone.

So my MR2 (with all the CF, massive alloys, ICE and bodykit tat) 1300 .. you with your GT4 1440 .. 22 stone heavier. And then 4wd transmition loss ..

Nice one good to see you got a good price for it, although I still think their going for too little at the moment look at cossies you'd be lucky to get a decent saff for that and escorts are still mid to high teens.

Think it mainly down to the amount that have been going for silly money on eBay recently :ffs:

Damb it Leeky I did not know you were selling the four!!! Am after a mint st205 n white with facelift lights! + really wanted to go out in it before you sold it to make up my mind about buying one! Ah well the hunt is still on...
