i know celicas have been around for a while but i didnt realy notice them until i started my new job and was so bored i started looking at the cars parked up on site and spotted a celica. now i cant get the damn thing outa my head and i keep on staring and obsesing about it.

i think its a black gen 7 140 (not sure) i love the look of the newer models (gen7) but the standard alloy wheels are poo!

i aint got mega bucks so im wanting to spend around £6000 for one.

few questions:

whats: premium and dynamic packs

whats: engine performance lift

whats: the insurance like on these? im 25 got 3yrs n/c/b so would i get insured for under £1000 (oh and 6 points for speeding/ damn speed cameras!)

whats: the type of celica in this pic. because the bodykit on this celica looks **** hot and i want it. also any better looking kits than this. (http://www.deltastyling.com/ check the delta 5 celica body kit - alloys look **** on this celica too)

is there anything else i should know when buying one of these cars?

please dont reply to this thread if all you want to say is: "weve already covered these topics , search the forum" cos i realy cant be ubikd to search the forum

cheers in advance

£6000, im not sure if you can pick up Gen 7 Celicas for that price, if you can, it'll more than likely just be the 140, instead of the 190 or T-Sport.

Engine Lift is on the 190 version of the 1.8, its similar to the 140 engine, until you hit 6,200rpm which then it goes crazy and sends peak bhp to 190, and revs to i think 8,300rpm :D (someone will correct me im sure :P )

Insurance, the 140 is in Group 13, and the 190 is in Group 15, so shouldnt be a problem for you, just shop around on the net

You should get a cheap Gen 7 from eBay for that price.

Premium pack has leather front seats (vinyl back seats) and climate control rather than aircon

Dynamic has 17" alloys, a spoiler etc

I think this is correct but i have never really looked into it, thats just my understanding of the older packs.

Welcome to TOC!

Sounds like the Celica bug!

Standard alloys on the 140 do tend to corrode aswell, so aftermarket ones might be an idea.

You'd be lucky to get a Gen 7 for £6k, but you might strike it lucky.....it'll be a 140bhp though

few questions:

whats: premium and dynamic packs

Premium pack adds leather front seats (vinyl rear), climate control and sunroof and Dynamic pack adds 17" alloys and spoiler.

whats: engine performance lift

Check out the pinned thread above about the Gen7's and the differences between VVT and VVTL-i engines. Just basically though, the VVT is 140bhp and the VVTL-i is 190bhp, at 6,200rpm a more aggressive set of cams is activated and extra power & torque is produced up to redline of 8,200rpm.

whats: the insurance like on these? im 25 got 3yrs n/c/b so would i get insured for under £1000 (oh and 6 points for speeding/ damn speed cameras!)

As already stated, 140 is grp 13 and 190 is grp 15. I'm 26, 5yrs protected NCB, social only, clean license on T-Sport (grp 15) and paying £690 fully comp.

whats: the type of celica in this pic. because the bodykit on this celica looks **** hot and i want it. also any better looking kits than this. (http://www.deltastyling.com/ check the delta 5 celica body kit - alloys look **** on this celica too)

IMHO Gen7's look best either untouched or very slightly modded. It's a beautiful car - leave it alone!!! :P

I'm not actually going to go through all the things you should look out for as it has been covered zillions of times in other threads. The search tool is very useful and will pick up everything to do with reliability and any reoccuring problems. Just type in "Gen 7", "140" or "190" and I'm sure a plethora of hits will come up!

Has some of that body kit been pop-riveted on??

*ahem*, anyways... Yeah, think you can pick up a G7 for £6k, but it will be a high milage 140 one. Shouldn't be a problem if you get Full Toyota Service History, but if its anything else I'd steer clear...

Things to be aware of:

5 spoke alloys are rubbish. Warrenty replaceable part with a bit of hassling your local MrT within the first 3 years. After then you're on your own... The 6 spoke, and T-Sport multi-spoke are both fine.

Boot gas struts wear out. Means that in the cold, they don't have the power to keep the boot lid up. Mine have gone, and it anoys the hell out of me. £120 fix from MrT.

Some of the belts in the engine bay squeek after a while. If you get this, it gets discussed here regularly, quick search on here (especially on posts by Spuffington!! ;) ) and you'll come up with some possible solutions!

Thats about it really above any beyond the norm for checking out a new car on a forecourt.

Good luck with the hunt!

thanks for the advice people, looks like a new job with better pay is on the way so i think i may hold on so i can splash more cash on a celica!

my heart is definately set on one

i understand some of the negative comments on the body kit but i think on the celica i have seen looks beautiful from the front but lacks the looks on the side and backend which dont give the front end of the car much justice!

i have only got up close to one celica though and i think its one of the first gen7s and doesnt have any of the extras

thanks again
