Double To Single Din Transplant?

Good evening to all my fellow avensis owners

I bought a 1999 cdx for myself as a cristmas present, (best gift to myself ever!) she's an absolute minter with only 24.000 miles on the clock and full service history (AA checked too!) I only have 1 problem with the car and that is the previous owner has installed proffesionaly a (Clarion double din unit) worth £600 in the car, its a cracking piece of kit but you cant remove anything security wise or or hide it from would be thieves! :ffs: Anyone know if you can change it to a (single din unit)? I want to fit my Kenwood unit which has a motorised front panel which hides itself when ignition is turned off and vice versa when turned on and also has the option of the face plate being removed manualy just incase you park in a dodgy area! If anyone has had theirs changed please please please let me know how and cost if possible?

Thanks in advance fellow luxury drivers

should be a straight swap .. there are the sun glasses holders and even cup holders you can put in the spare hole.

Shouldn't be a problem. The fascia on those just pulls away from around the stereo. However, bear in mind the CDX had a double din unit as standard anyway.

If you can find a scrap Avensis like a GS model, you could nick the fascia out of one of those, cause they had a single din stereo. This gives you the option of changing your complete fascia colour then, and it all just pops in.

Otherwise, yes as already said you can get varios single din things to fit the empty slot.

Changing the stereo is simple. you need to pull the entire fascia off. Believe me it just pops out if you are careful, this in your case will be the wood coloured plastic that goes right up to the air vents around the heater controls. Then the stereo is fixed in place with a mounting bracket that simply unscrews, and then the bracket can be attached to your new stereo. Some stereo manufacturers put mounting holes in the sides of the stereo ready for japanese cars, alpine do for one of them.

  • 1 month later...

I've bought THIS.

I've been told that it should do the job, although I don't know yet because I haven't fitted my new stereo. (You see below that adapter where it says that customers who purchased this, also purchased AVH-P5700DVD motorised monitor?? That was me!! B) Can't wait to get it fitted, which will probably be this weekend).
