Airbags & P/s Warning Lights On

I have a Toyota Yaris 1.0 (2004 model) and the airbags light is on. I have replaced the airbags and module and tried to get it reset by Toyota Dealer but they said they had a problem reading the codes...They only managed to retrieve one code which was for the airbags and they tried to reset it but they couldn't. The other codes were unreadable. I also have the P/S light on the dash which I think is the Power Steering but don't know where the problem lies and where to check for loose connections etc. Is there anyway in which I can reset the ECU so the lights might go off? I have tried to take the Battery terminal out for a few hours but made no difference. I really do hope that the ECU is not knackered which I don't think it is as the other things work on the car....Please Help!

If it is still in the 3 year warranty..............get it back to them............or another Toyota dealer that does not try to fob you off with excuses.

Keep on at them.........best of luck............and welcome to TOC

Welcome  you can try resetting the ECU by pulling the fuse. There's a diagram on the site somewhere.

Hello, thanks for the quick replies.....the car would have been under warrenty but the car was unforuntaly in a accident which set the airbags off. I have since then replaced the airbags and module. I have tried the Battery test and the fuse test but still with no luck.

Have you changed the airbags or was it done by an authorised dealer?

That could be the answer.

Don’t forget the side airbags and seat belt pre tensioners, they may be all connected somehow seeing as they are all part of the safety system.

If you are still on warranty, and it is still valid,I suggest you take it to a Toyota dealer as many times as it takes until the problem is fixed.

They should do it free of charge for you if the car is on warranty.

If not, then I can only erase the error codes, if you visit me, but the ECU light will come again on, if there is a problem with the car.

How far is it from East Midlands to Greece?

Sounds like the airbags havent been installed properly/something is interfering somewhere assuming this problem has started after the airbags and module were replaced?

I think you need to take it to Toyota.... you should get a professional to do it - its never good to fiddle with something that could save your life one day  Just my personal opinion!

The airbags and module had been deployed which i have now changed with the correct part numbers etc. I have also changed the seatbelts.

I will have to re-check the fitment of the airbags.

The car was in a accident and so toyota dont want to know the car. They said the warranty is invalid and didnt help me one bit. Had to pay them £40 for nothing!!! They didnt even give me the list of codes that came out, well only 1 code came out which was the airbags but the power steering never came up on the computer.

I changed the airbags myself, the authorised dealers wanted too much, I would have to take out a second mortgage if I went with them

Just because it's had an accident they don't want to know? A lot of cars have accidents sadly so surely that's just wrong?

They wont touch the car now, they dont seem to touch the accident damaged cars.

Depends on how badly damaged the car was.... was it a write off? That might make sense as to why Toyota would not want anything to do with it.... all warranty would be null and void if any repairs done to the car were not carried out by authorised dealers and/or using Toyota parts - that would include DIY jobs on airbags I'd imagine.

The car was in a accident and so toyota didnt want to look at it. I am going to try and get a car electrical person to have a look at the ECU and take it from there.

they won't touch it because you did the work. If they had done the work..accident or no accident it would still be under warranty.

There's Air bag sensors all over the place have you changed them all? Just because the side airbags didn't deploy doesn't mean they are giving a "i'm all right " code back.

The dealer costs may be much higher..but air bag systems are complicated, a lot of components usually need replacing/resetting.

Oh and for them to run a diagnostic fo £40...they should have found the fault code..if not, then go to another dealer. The fault code/s would have directly indicated the part/s in an error or failed state.

They did the test but they didnt give me any of the codes cus they said it didnt come out with any as the ecu didnt read. I aint changed all the airbags like the side ones cus i dont even know where they are. The front sensors seem to be ok though.

The side aribags are in the front seats, aren't they? If not connected, that will set off the dash display. I had a squeaky driver's seat frame replaced under warranty and... they forgot to reconnect the airbag! As I drove it away I spotted the airbag warning light flashing and took it back.

Hello, i have changed the seat belts which i am guessing they are the side airbags? I have changed the module for the airbags and still error comes up.
