Hi All,

As I read through the Toyota IF magazine I received this morning I was reading about the Aygo and they said it's now available in Diesel so I checked the website and sure enough it's available in 1.4 D4D on the Aygo+ and Sport models.

Also says the petrol is available in Multi-Mode too which I didn't know about either.

Just thought I'd mention about the Diesel incase anyone else wasn't aware.

Cheers

i heard that it'll be 1.4HDI  ....Toyota will mount peugeot diesel engines on AYGO :crybaby: .and the 1.0VVT-I petrol will be mount on PEUGEOT 107 AND CITROEN C1.that's some kind of a joint-venchure i think, because the plant is common for the three brands in the Chech Republic.

Heard the same too, here's pic of my mmt, 2tronic or sensodrive; depending on whether you think it's a Toyota, Peugeot or Citroen  If you just drive a car its an auto

Surprising choice for the Aygo I would have thought - the oil burner will no doubt be heavier which will impact on the mpg - which is already very good on the 3 cylinder petrol. Take that into acount and there won't be much between the 2.

I hope they also upgrade sound proofing otherwise it will become intrusive.

My guess is the diesel engine will aslo command about £800 price premium.

The AYGO is available with the 1.4L HDi from PSA-Ford, It's the same block that you can find in the Citroën C2 & C3, the Peugeot 206 and the Ford Fiesta.

In the C1 it's a special version that delivers only 58HP in stead of the 70HP in the other cars. This is because the 70HP version has too much torque for the original Toyota gearbox.

The same engine also had a 92HP version with 4 valves/cilinder, but that one had a lot of difficulties... I can tell you, still driving one in my C3... till next week when I get my C1 petrol.

Diesel Aygo great idea  , but with four cylinders boring

Well on a 3Door Aygo Sport the price goes from £7,745 with the 1.0 Manual to £8,745 with the 1.4 D4D Manual (that price is with no extra options btw) so it's quite a hefty jump like SMW mentioned

Posted

But its also a hefty engine jump as well.... that little thing will rocket with the 1.4 diesel engine in it - how much torque?

Posted

Well not really...

Top Speed

95 mph (154 km/h)

Acceleration 0-62 mph (0-100kmh)

16.8 secs

Fuel Economy (Combined)

68 mpg (4 l/100km)

Gotta love those fuel consumption figures though.

Posted

Even then, you'd have to do a whole load of miles to try and make up the price difference..

I don't see the point tbh.

Posted

the point will be if the torque is higher to make a difference, as thats what counts in town driving

Posted

Petrol:

Power: 68HP and Torque 93Nm

Diesel:

Power 54HP and Torque 130Nm

Well here in France, where the diesel is as long available as the petrol version, it is said that the diesel is somewhat more smooth to drive.

But it consumes almost as much as the petrol engine, and the diesel verion has no filtre for particals as most other new diesels... so in town..., not very healthy!

One test on both engines said that the petrol engine consumed less than the diesel..., but this was done at a speed of 50 miles an hour...

Anyway I did not read one test where they said the extra money is worth to buy the diesel version.

Wouldnt mind having a drive of the diesel tho to see what it's like tho...

I think the price increase is too big really, especially for a car that is made out to be just a runaround, but that's just my opinion.

thats true, but companies are cashing in on the small car craze

Yeah they are, that could be a reason why the "supermini" category is increasing and improving.

exaclty, in the last 10 years, since increased oil prices, insurance etc etc, supermini's have leaped forward in developement, compared with '85-'95. although it does seem that there is a new type of car coming in for the cheaper market still, the micromini?

Peugeot have obviously noticed that there is no market for a slightly more ecconomical but much more expensive small car and have chosen not to bring the diesel version into their range. A wise move and interestingly Peugeot have still sold double the numbers of Citroen in the UK so far. I don't think the introduction of a diesel will change this but cheaper prices for the Citroen may.

Unless Peugeot might release it in a while perhaps? I don't know what the price variation is between makes actually (I assume it's not much or am I wrong?).

Its selling badly for the Citroen because its not much smaller than the C2 and the C2 actually looks nicer IMO! I think a boo boo was made in that respect, whereas the 107 has no competition in the Peugeot range - same with the Aygo.

Your right, the fact that you can get a deal on a C2 that makes it cheaper than a C1 will also not be helping.

If it wasn't for the perculiar rear window  line on the C2 i would have been tempted. Something just doesn't look right from the side though! It has become a modders favourite though and i don't really like following a crowd! :gora:

as far as im aware, the pug is the same price as the aygo and the c1 is £500 cheaper than both

the 107 and 1007 (the aygo based car) arnt as similar as the c1 and c2, but are more similar than the aygo and yaris. i think toyota have got the best deal out of this

The 1007 with its sliding doors is a niche vehicle and will always have a limited appeal but it won't steal buyers from 107.

The Aygo and New Yaris are in the same vein as 107 and 207, and C1 and C3. It is the C2 that is the odball in the pack as it only comes in 3 door form.

Interstingly the 1007 and the C2 share the same platform.

Posted

And the C2 has the same platform as the C3, but shortened, and the 207 has the same platform too, but a bit longuer than the C3. Safe costs and make differences but share as much as possible.

I have driven the Aygo 1,4 D-4D (1,4 HDI from PSA) and must say that i was disapointed... A couple of years ago i had a Peugeot 206 1,4 HDI with the same engine (68 bhp standard - not the 54 bhp-version as in the Aygo), and that 68 bhp engine is much more "fun" and alive. The 54 bhp-version is not so keen on reving and is way to slow... More like a VW Fox 1,2... And thats not a compliment to the Aygo diesel... ;)

The 54 bhp is feeling like an old Ferguson-tractor when cold - but after 10 min. it´s begining to warm up and it runs okay... The torque is okay - but dosen´t feel much better than the petrol-engine... The better economy is a great thing, but the extra price (in Denmark) and the fact that the car gets very slow and sounds very "rough" pulls down in my book... I bougt the petrol-version... Now - thats a fun car to drive... :)

P.S. My old 206 1,4 HDI was chipped to 95 bhp... In a 825 kg Aygo it could be a little "rocket"... ;)

Interesting to see you were disappointed with it, although perhaps for some people the extra economy will make it even more ideal as a commuters car especially those with long distances to travel.
