Hi,

When it comes to car maintenance I don't have any experience, so sorry if this is a simple question to answer...

I have just decided to change the oil on my Starlet Sportif (R Reg) and on removing the screw from the sump I noticed that there is an area which is fairly oily to the right of the sump, I take it this is the gear box?

If this is the case, what would be the cause of the leak (some sort of seal?) and how easy is it to fix? is it sometime which could be done myself of best to have a garage have a look and sort it? (Anyway I do also need to have the CV Gaiter replaced... is this difficult?)

be best to steam clean the area and watch it for a while , just because that area is oily dont mean its leaking from there , may be leaking higher up and running down.Have the gaitor done at a garage also. its not a job for an amateaur

chances are its the crank shaft oil seal that maybe weeping oil. ???????????

i agree. could just be from an old spill or old leak or something. get it cleaned up and keep an eye on it.

if it dont drip on the ground i wouldnt worry too much about it.
