Help - Unusual Noise

Hi,

I have a V Reg Corolla 1.4 VVTI, which I love.

Unfortunately, it's started making a scratchy noise from about 3,500 revs.

It is due a service (next pay day!)

I guess I'm worried that there may be something very wrong.

Of course the obvious advice is to drop it by the dealer, which I will of course do, but I just wondered whether anybody has had similar problems, and what they might have been.

I think it's coming from under the bonnet rather than rattly interior, etc.

<Quick Edit> - It's chain driven and only has 80k on the clock, so should be 60k short of a chain change.
