Have you been in this scenario...

got to car and used keyfob to open doors but did not work...so then used key to open door and the alarm goes off...HOW the hell do you shut the car up???

THis happened to me on my T3x 03plate just the other day righ outside the main entrance to sainsburys...

Well embarrassed, no one seemed to care tho!

What causes this, I would have thought that once you open the door with the key that the alarm would shut up...I mean how are you meant to get into your car if lets say your Battery runs out in the Keyfob???

Can you not disable the alarm by turning the key both ways or smilar in the drivers door lock...I'd be 'alarmed' (get it! ;-)) if you could not switch the alarm off without the remote fob.

Time to check that user manual!

This happened to me before and the only way to disable is to turn the unit off in the engine compartment. At one stage the alarm kept going off so had to leave it switched off and bought it back to dealers to get it reprogrammed. Pain in the :censor:

What do you turn off in the engine compartment? On my Volvo I had a key I could turn the unit off with. I know of nothing like that on the Avensis. I am hoping this never happens to me.

Using the key supplied I switched off the alarm. The lock is located just under the siren. Don't know if it is the same on UK models. The alarm was installed by the dealer for the previous owner. Can't remember what type it is, Cobra I think.

My 53 Avensis T4 has just been collected by the dealer for headlight change (condensation problem). I asked about turning off the alarm. He said there is no seperate unit in the engine compartment to turn off the siren. He said if your key fob fails and the siren goes off unlock the drivers door insert the key in the ignition and start the engine. The siren should stop. He suggested changing the Battery in the key fob every 2 years.

He said he would check on the above and let me know.

Older Toyota cars do have a unit in the engine compartment. Hope this helps.

I dead lock mine...so the result for you would be the same, also I did try to start the car with the key (thinking it might shut up.....) it would not start...

My dealer ship changes out the key fob bat every 20k service...not quite there yet and might not get to it with the T3 Ive got...thinking of changing it to a spirit.
