Happens to mine to a certain extent-not noticed the lights dimm when I move the wheel, but operate the leccy windows and they dimm tad. The motor must take a certain amount of power that is replaced when the engine catches up, revs slightly more and pushes more power into the Battery....I think!

All cars I've had have done this though, so I am not worried.....

I think you'll find the power steering on the 1.8 petrol is electric powered, rather than hydraulic, so using the steering at idle will draw some power from the lights etc. I would guess this is normal, and probably not noticable when driving ie when engine is under load anyway (not idling)

THat does make sense...I did not know that the powe steering on the 1.8 is electric powered.... is that only on the 1.8 engine or on all 03 + avensis models...?

As in the wise words of the SOUTH PARK kids....I learnt somthing today.... :)

If you turn the steering to dim the lights, then pick up the revs slightly, the lights should come back to full brightness

I'm pretty sure its just the 1.8 petrol, the D4-D is def hydraulic, and I believe the 2.0 petrol is as well.

Yeah thats right. To be honest the electric streeing has better feel and feed back in my opinion.
