Hey,

I have been loosing water for a while now and the temperature guage shoots to the red whenever i put my foot down, also i have exhaust fumes venting into my cooling system so i put this all down to a blown head gasket.

Has anyone had the same problem and had it fixed? if so how much roughly do you think i would be looking at to get it done?

cheers,

Jim

exhaust fumes in the coolant system? rather odd.

it sound to me as it your rad fan isnt cutting in, or thermo isnt opening, coolant is boiling into expansion tank.

what boost you running?

if it is a head gasket you'll have coolant in your oil/oil in your coolant

cheers

Hi, my head gasket went back in august last year and to get it repaired cost me £692 thankfully my mum paid £300 so it didnt hurt quite as much. however im begining to think the fault is coming back as some indicators are telling me(hope not). i think the job my not of been done properly OR there is another fault lurking about.

i had oil in coolant and that creamy stuff in the oil cap and also loss of water with the temp gauge whacking the top mark.

hope everything goes OK

if its head gasket then its well worth having a steel one and a set of ARP studs fitted at the same time.

does sound typical of HG failure though

you will get combustion gasses in the coolant as the cylinder pressures will be higher than water jacket pressure.

make sure you take it to some where that specialises in these cars though to make sure you get a proper job done

defo sounds like the dreaded BHG, when getting it done get it done properly with a set of ARP head studs and a metal head gasket, i went a little over the top when fixing mine and got the head re-conditioned, cost me £1300 ish but theres a guy ian smith runs a place down south (from me) and he'll get it done for £900 and thats with a re-conned head. his company's call the 'toyauto centre'

head gasket has definatly gone now cant run the car for more that two minutes without steam venting from the over flow in the expasion tank, still runs well just wont hold for long.

found a guy here who specializes in turbo jap cars and also makes house calls so i wont need to try getting it to a garage he is charging £385 in the end all in not bad i thought.

now all i have to do is find out why my dumpvalve wont work when all the pipes are intact think it might have something to do with the wynns stop smoke oil thickner i put in to gain back a bit of compression from slightly worn piston rings, says its safe for turbos but me thinks not dump valves!
