4age Conversion Into 98 Corolla

A few questions that some of you may be able to help with. I'm putting in a 4AGE engine into my corolla and ditching the 4EFE, however the 4AGE is from an MR2 MK1 so heres my questions?

1. Engine mounts, I've been told that the engine mounts from a 98-00 4AFE engine would fit on the 4AGE as the blocks are the same is this true? as I dont think the 4EFE mounts will work.

2. Power steering/AC, I take it these are linked to the belts driven from the alternator? can they be taken off the 4EFE and used with the 4AGE, as the MR2 MK1 didnt come with AC and not sure about power steering?

3. Gearbox, would the 4EFE gearbox work with the 4AGE or would it be better to get a 4AFE or 4AGE gear box, also would the drive shafts/gear linkage etc need to be changed if the gearbox was changed to one of the ones listed above?

thats all i can think of at the moment but Im sure I'll think of more.

ANY info would be a great help, thanks

1. The engine mounts for the 4afe and 4age are the same apart from 1 mount. You will need to drill a new hole or weld the last mount.

3. Use the 4age gearbox  I know john ae111sr kept the ae111 suspension setup the same but had to use the levin drive shafts. Also I remember when my engine was fitted the guy that did it used the 4agze gear linkage but cut it down to fit. Not sure if you will need to do that with the 4age

Also is your doner engine an electric pulse speedo or a cable? do you have a front cut or just the engine?

And I'm still working on it - Custom suspension on the way - maybe........

if you were to have a 4AFE engine already in your corolla could the 4AGE head go on? cos if the 4AFE and 4AGE are the same block surely they could? then you wouldn't need to do drive shaft work??? or are 4AGE blocks have different internals?

I dont really understand what the problems are can you explain them for me? Sorry to be a pain in the ****.

The 4agze that john and I have is very heavy compared to the 4afe :o and the poor old 4afe suspension cant take it :(

I dont think that the 4afe and the 4age are the same block mate

I take it the 4AGE would be lighter than the 4AGZE?

What I need to know really is all the problems I'm going to run into, the 4AGE engine I have will be a normal n/a tuned to about 150bhp. Its going into my '98 corolla as a 1/4mile racer. I'm trying to get a picture of what I'm up against. So far all I have is the engine, which is sat in my garage in bits while I rebuild it and replace parts with uprated ones.

Now, do I get the engine sorted and then once its ready take it to a specialist and get them to do the hard work of fitting it or will it be something I could do myself. Why would the drive shafts need replacing? Ive seen clutch kits for corollas and they say will fit 4EFE 4AFE 4AGE engine so surely that would mean my current gearbox would work with the 4AGE engine? if not why cant a 4AFE gearbox work? I've reached the stage now where I understand how the engione works and what all the bits do but gearboxes, drive shalfts etc im pretty much clueless on.

I have the Koni adjustable shocks and apex springs do you know if these will take the 4AGE engine?

Also I live in Portsmouth, does anyone know anywhere in the area or in hampshire that take on toyota engine conversions as I could do with going down and speaking to people face to face and showing them what my plan is.

I personally feel that engine conversions aren't a problem aslong as you think things through first so please anyone, any help will be great.

By the way thanks so far for the help.

Sparco- I see that you got koni shocks, what set up are you running then? coz everywhere ive looked on the net says that koni will only fit if the car has KYB housings!! is this true??

cheers

Bigshark - the original equipment shocks on our Corollas are made by KYB. They have to be modified to take the Koni cartridge inserts. Not a big deal but useful if you have an angle grinder :D - just follow the instructions that come with the Konis.

Sparco - the Konis should be fine for the 4A-GE I've had them for two years with the 4A-GZE - but they do need replacing now. The extra weight with my setup (and Knowlsons) comes from the supercharger and the gearbox which is about 50kgs heavier than the one with the 4A-GE. The internals are pretty much the same as the MR2 Turbo box to enable it to take the extra power.
