1991 Camry Starter Problem

I have just bought a 1991 2.o Camry Station Wagon . The starter will not turn on occassions and the solonoid does not opperate . Moving the gear leaver ( auto ) does not seem to make a difference . The previous owner had a trick of rolling the car and then putting it in gear , I am not sure if the engine mounts have survived this abuse . I understand all of the usual suspects have been replaced . Any ideas ?
