My son's Paseo needs a change of gearbox oil. I know it takes 75/90 oil. but the handbook states it can use GL4 or GL5 spec. Since these can behave very differently due to the different amount of EP additives, can anyone recommend the best type, or has anyone had any problems using one or the other. GL5 is not simply an automatic upgrade for GL4, as some mistakenly believe. Many thanks.

well I don't know if it was the right thing to do but I used GL4 when I did an oil change on my tranny. Had no problems with it.

i believe gl4 is best. this is what redline told me when i queried them about it.

they said that the gl5 can sometimes be too slipery for the synchros to work correctly, or something like that anyway
