Airflow Meter

Hello all.

I am new to the forum, so I apologies now for any infringements i might make ... sure someone will put me stright.

I have a 2li 16 valve 3S-FE EFI (normally aspirated) 1990 MR2 mk2 and I am having two problems with it.

The first, it just will not start when the amient temperature is cold. When i say it won't start... not strickly true. If I persist long enough it might but sometimes I give up long before it even splutters. Has anyone had the same problem or does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

The second (which may be related to the first). The acceleration is very jerky. I have put this down to the air flow meter being worn. I took the plastic cover off and sure enough, it is worn. So I am looking for a replacement.

Does anyone have one or knows where i can get one?

Details of the flow meter:

It is a alumimium cast which sits on top of the air cleaner (is integral with the air cleaner lid) with a small label stock on it. There are two sets of numbers on the label 22250-74230 and 197100-4160 and the words DENSO JAPAN at the bottom.

I getting :crybaby: desperate, help.

Because you have the 120bhp FE engine, I'd suggest you get down a scrappy and look in other Toyotas with that engine.

I'd be tempted to put a fresher/newer/better engine in her.

Hi,

your first problem might be related to the cold start injector, you'll need to look at the workshop manual to find out how to check it. It should be possible to get hold of a workshop manual somewhere on the internet, someone on here will probably be able to to you where you can find one.
