Uk Speedometer In Import St205

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with putting a uk speedometer in a import gt4 and weather it works or not?

I have located a GT4 Speedometer unit (part number: 83110-2D540) And from my examination of the Toyota EPC diagrams it a case of removing the dashboard dial assembly, unscrewing the holding screw from the back of the original dial, removing it, then sticking the new on in place. As i understand it the Speedo and other dials are electronic, so there are contact points on the speedo that link it up to the main housing's electricals.

The reason i ask is that i have been offered this speedo for not much money, and my dial facia is ugly as hell.

Thanks...

Yep it does work and i have done it.

First pull off the plastic plate which goes around the key hole.

Unscrew the 2 screws on the plastic panel which runs above the speedo, then you will see 4 screws holding it in.

Remove these, adjust the steering wheel so it is as low as possible.

Pull the cluster forward and rotate it so the bottom comes up - you will need to do this to get it to fit through.

Pull out the three cables from behind.

Now on to changing the speedos. If you have bought the full cluster then you wont be able to use it as the wiring is different and the temp guage wont work.

So you will need to remove the clear plastic from the front of your import cluster by popping out the clips. The black surround needs to be removed too and unclips the same way.

Now undo all the screws you can see directly behind the speedo dial in the centre. Once you do this it should drop out.

Do the same to the UK Cluster and simply move the UK Speedo over into the import cluster.

Replace the screws and the plastic surround/cover.

Follow the rest of the instructions in reverse to install it back into your car

Thanks for the quick reply!

Thats excellent i thought this would be the case now i can get the dash tidied up and all thats left for me is to locate a nice set of original alloys :)

Ive had the car for around a year and its the only thing thats annoyed me about it was the speedo's uglyness must have been a cheapo dial kit, other than that the car pretty solid for a '94 :)
