Anti Roll Bar Bushings

Firstly hi everyone & congratulations on a great forum.

I've searched the forum before posting, but I still have a few queries.

My wifes 01 Yaris developed a knocking from the front drivers side last week. I took the car to my uncle who's a mechanic, but has never worked on a Yaris, & as soon as he had a look he said it was the anti roll bar rubber bushes. We tried to remove the nuts but they are rusted solid! So it looks like we may have to cut them off.

I went off to the local dealer who checked the chassis number & said the car was manufactured in Japan (apparently that makes a difference??)

He gave me 8 rubber bushes- 2 top & 2 bottom either side (£1.95 each) & 2 threaded pins & lock nuts (£2.25 each).

We're attempting the job on Friday & I'd appreciated any useful information from anyone who has done it themselves, or seen it done, or any drawings or photos of how the whole thing goes together & shold look when completed.

Many Thanks

Murph

Did you get any of the metal cups that the bushes sit in also? I would advise getting some if not as they can be quite brittle when removed.

Sway bar (also called anti-sway bar, anti-roll bar, roll bar, or stabilizer bar).

For renewing a perished rubber bush, of course you don't need to dismantle the other bits described in the article. Access may be limited though. The terminology used is American, but you should have no difficulty in guessing what they are, once you have the anti-roll bar in front of you

The Haynes Service Manual has a decent rundown of step-by-step instructions, with a good line drawing (pp 10.8 to 9). The relevant torque settings are also given. At the end of the section, it suggests that you should have the front wheel alignment checked (that is, if you have touched the steering track rods).

Welcome to the forum.
