Hi everyone,

Im new and just wondered if you could all give me some help. Im looking for a celica GT. Im not power hungry yet so just want the GT. My mums boy friend has got one and I want one now. What common problems do they have? I just need a nice everyday car that looks the part and goes well too. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking to spend around £3000. I preferably want a black ST205 and dont mind a modified one. I am also potentially tempted by an MR2 (middle shape). Its between the two and am going to look at both. The celica is the better one though as its got kinda space for 4!

What should I be looking for on them? My mums boyfriend has one and nothings gone wrong with it in the last year and looks awesome. Iv heard that rust is un common as they are galvanised and its just a japanese thing!

Well, you ain't gonna get an ST205 for £3000 unless its fit for the scrapyard.

You can easily get an ST202 for £3000 though.

hi mitch the gt is known as the st202

the st205 is the beastly gt4

the st202 you need to get contains the 3sge powerplant , as for problems there just is none if the oil has been changed regular and the car has been well looked after , buy a dog and it will be costly as toyota parts are not cheap.if you do buy 1 have the thing a major service inc timing belt and you wont go far wrong mate.

£2100 got me this. Full Toyota Service history, 115,000miles, 12 moths tax and test and my cheekynes got me a full tank thrown in.

Sorry for what feels like me posting a picture of my car every day but he did ask. ;)

I took a toyota mechanic and he gave it the all clear. Basically the guy owned it from new and has had it as a third car for two years as he liked it so much he did'nt want to get rid. When he bought a 55 plate Scooby he said that there was little point in keeping it but wanted it to go to a good home and when I said I only had £2100 (it was in at £2700) and showed him some pics showing how I treated my other cars and after lenghty conversations over a week he said OK, basically a nice guy with enough money to make sure his car went to a good home. I'd have loved to be in the same position as him one day. Ive met him for a pint since and he said he wants any updates on what I do to it so still keep in touch. I also had a PNC done on him just to be sure!!!!

I did the same with my last car.

A 18yr old chap came round, fell in love with it, but had £500 less than the asking price. His old man was a mechanic who signed it off as all ok. The kid pestered me for a week and in the end, once I made him promise to look after it (and not to put or horrendous body kit on it!), he lobbed me the cash he could afford.

I've seen him driving around in it since and it's was still kept beautifully polished and hadn't been modded at all!!

Hello

Welcome to TOC :)

I brought my Gen6 GT for shy of £2000, just because it had a couple of scratches on it. As you should now Toyota are built to last, i have had my GT nearly a year( haven't looked back since  ) and have not had to spend a penny on repairs for it, just £40 MOT.

You should get a good GT for £3000, which gen are you looking for?

Hope you find the car you want.

Right thanks for that guys. Its a st202 that I'm after then. I dont particularly want an import but will consider one. My mums boyfriends celica has just tempted me since the day he had it. Will post pics when I get them. Ive always been a bit of a ford person and currently have a 212bhp Escort Turbo which is silly quick but it hasnt got the sporty/luxury package Im seeking. Luxury in a car to me means ABS and Aircon and a choice of where to put the heat LOL.

Im on the lookout for one anyway so if your thinking of selling up let me know!

cheers

Mitch
