My Gas Lost 1/4 Tank In Less Than 20 Min!

Hi new problem. I filled up with high octane gas last Wed.

By last night, the tank was empty.

I have not driven more than 60 miles at the most since

them. Last night I watched it drop from quarter tank to empty

as I drove home from Kingston, less than an 8 mile trip.

HELP! What can be causing this. PS. I checked, no leak!!

PPS. My hubby did change the spark plugs the day before.

THANK YOU!!!

My guess would be faulty gauge, is the tank really empty or is it just reporting that it's empty?

One way to test is to go and fill up, if you can fit £40+ in then something is seriously wrong. Only problem then is you would lose another £40's worth of fuel

Trust me though I'm sure you would notice if something was that wrong, it would either me smoking really bad or there would be puddles and a strong smell of petrol

My car is not that bad but to be honest Its bad on petrol. I put £30 and have covered 80 miles and am on the mark above the empty level. I wouldnt mind but I have been driving it sensibly!

You must have a leak somewhere as there is no way in which the car can use that much up in 8 miles.

take it to a garage that does mot testing and ask if they can check it on the gas analyser for you , it wont take long and they may even do it for free or not much more than a tenner , it will let you know the score on the lamda and the state of the cat.

Sounds like a gauge problem to me. If you lost 1/4 of a tank through leakage over 8 miles then it would`ve reeked of petrol. And if the car was using it you`d have noticed the clouds of smoke behind you. Assuming you use your rear view mirrors. :D

Of course it could be related to your hubby working in the engine bay. But as GT4 BOOSTER suggests a visit to a garage could throw some light on it or at least show that everything engine wise is hunky dory.
