Squeaky Windscreen

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi,

I have noticed a squeak or creeking noise which seems to be coming from my windscreen, has anyone else had this with their RAV?

On close inspecition, there also seems to be a 2" piece cut off from the windscreen rubber on either side at the bottom, the pieces are still there but only loosely attached to the car, it is the part of the rubber surround that directs the water runoff. Any ideas, I thought maybe a windscreen replacement had been done in the past and bodged - should I get it checked by my dealer, and would it be expensive to refit the screen with a new surround?

As usual, all advice and replies greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Modified scuttle trim(the bit that fits upto the windscreen around the wipers

Can be modified by removing and cleaning along the rubber edge along the screen and adding foam around the fixing points, Be carfeul with the clips

There is a good rattle/cowl fix guide here for this problem

http://members.tripod.com/ri_rav4/rattle.htm

I must get round to fixing this myself. It's worse in the winter as the plastic become brittle and will hear the squeks most of the time. But in the summer you don't hear this rattle as the plastic trim parts get warmed and flex and you don't hear this rattle.

I had the same noise. This is a known problem.

Solution from my dealer : lift the black plastic panel at the bottom of the windscreen and a long foam with double sided adhesive should be applied.

This fixes the black panel to the windscreen.

This solution is very affective since there are no more noises.

Thanks everyone  ,

I will add this to my list of jobs to do when the weather is a bit warmer, and I have some spare time!
