Zero Boost?

Hi all..

problem...

I have a st185 gt4. the gauge on the dash above the fuel gauge shows no boost at all ever. also, i have no boost from the turbo. i have checked as many hoses for leakage and splits and non connections as possible, but there seems to be nothing wrong.

i have yet to check the vsv to see if it's working.

i think i may change the turbo as someone said it might just not be working.

how does a turbo come 'on' boost?

can someone explain how a turbo works in laymans terms.

oh and i cant seem to work my air con properly.. it's as if it's stuck on full heat all the time unless i turn the dial full anti clocwise then it blows cold air on full speed. none of the fan speed switches work but the lights show which switch i just pressed..

thnaks.

It could be the turbine spindle has snapped. Not unknown. Which basically means the turbine wont spin effectively if at all. Check out this website Overboost to see all about turbos.

Might read it myself one day.

ok.. so i've had a look under the bonnet.. and all i can find is a cracked inlet pipe(air)from the AFM to the turbo..the spindle in the turbo spins with no pressure and dosen't wobble or pull out or have any play in it whatsoever.. so i guess that puts the snapped spindle thing to rest, and i think the vsv isn't working.

am i correct in thinking it's attached to the bulkhead on the far left with an electrical connection and 2 pipes coming from it.??

when i put the key in the ignition and turn it to 'on' the needle for the boost gauge will rise to just below 0. when i start the car the needle drops back to it's 'off' state.

any ideas guys?

tony.
