Avensis Running Problem

Can anyone help

I have just bought a 1998 2.0 petrol avensis

the low water warning light keeps coming on even though there is enough water in it and when the light comes on the tickover drops and the car is pinking when accelerating after a while the light goes out but keeps on coming back on ???Help please

Sorry i just realised the low water light is in fact the low oil warning light but the oil is up to the max line on dip stick ????

The oil warning light shows oil pressure, not quantity of oil. Ususaly when there is enough oil and lihght comes, problem is in oil pump.

ok i know trhere are 2 oil warning lights the red one for pressure the amber one is for oil level it is the amber one that is coming on it looks like a water can with wavey line underneath it ???

Does your oil look OK no frothing as if it has water in it? If you see this suspect head gasket blown.

If that is Ok. It could be a wiring fault.

Oil is clean no signs of frothing or contamination at all shame i cant get a workshop manual for this car it would make life a bit easier
