Gt4 Problem Turbo.

Hi all..

problem...

I have a st185 gt4. the gauge on the dash above the fuel gauge shows no boost at all ever. also, i have no boost from the turbo. i have checked as many hoses for leakage and splits and non connections as possible, but there seems to be nothing wrong.

i have yet to check the vsv to see if it's working.

i think i may change the turbo as someone said it might just not be working.

how does a turbo come 'on' boost?

EDIT:

ok.. so i've had a look under the bonnet.. and all i can find is a cracked inlet pipe(air)from the AFM to the turbo..the spindle in the turbo spins with no pressure and dosen't wobble or pull out or have any play in it whatsoever.. so i guess that puts the snapped spindle thing to rest, and i think the vsv isn't working.

am i correct in thinking it's attached to the bulkhead on the far left with an electrical connection and 2 pipes coming from it.??

when i put the key in the ignition and turn it to 'on' the needle for the boost gauge will rise to just below 0. when i start the car the needle drops back to it's 'off' state.

any ideas guys?

tony.

the car feels very slow. there is no boost from the engine at all.

the gauge on the dash is working fine.

i can't think of anything that it could be.

the turbo spins, i think.. but produces no boost, any way i can check?? when i took off the intake hose the engine stopped. so i couldn't see if the impellor was working or not .

Try sealing the inlet pipe. Your losing all the air from the airbox. Liken it to a vacuum cleaner hose. If you put your hand on the end when its working ok it`ll suck hard. Put a hole in the pipe, it`ll lose suction.

the car WILL stall when you take the pipe off as the AFM detects no air going into the system.

Check you actuator and the hoses connected to it.

the only way i can think off is to use a compressor, the actuator arm should begin to move at 5p.s.i. but you'll need to make sure that the pipe to the VSV is dissconnected and sealed before trying this.
