A Better Air Filter For A Turbodiesel

Hey everybody!

Just looking for some help on this, is it possible to put a better air filter in a Carina TD engine? Its a 2CT. Some people say Yes, other say NO, its not worthy... Is it different from a gasoline engine air filter or for a NA?

What do you recommend?

The original air filter box seems to be very restrictive, though. <_<

Thanks in advance

cant remember what the carina looks like under the bonnet but all you need is some pipe the size of your turbo inlet and a k&n 57i filter with the right size end. should inprove performance a little. other things to think about are intercooler (if not already fitted), exhaust and there may even be a superchip availiable

Thanks for the info!

I was thinking of installing an Intercooler also, because it will improve a bit, and to check out if it is possible to modify the wastegate actuator to increase the turbo preassure. But before that, I need to install a turbo preassure meter first, because i dont want to blow it int the process!!!. An easy way to increase the turbo preasure is to move a few mm the complete wastegate putting a 2mm separator in the base of the valve mouting. That would increase the preasure in 1 to 1,4 psi. That is what some guys did in a Volvo turbo.

Well The registration card says Corona, but the specification in the door says Carina

In Argentina the Carina, Corona, Avensis, and new Avensis are all called Corona (I hate when they do that!!!), so that's why it migth be confusing. I guess it's a Corona.

Anyway, the engine is a 2CT, so knowing that is much easier, isn't it?

Cheers!!

rather than adjust the wastegate i'd fit either a bleed valve or if budget alows an electronic boost controler, the waste gate is there as a saftey measure so its best left alone

When you say Bleed Valve, you mean a Blow Off Valve? I was told that a BOV doesnt work in a diesel, because there is not a throttle plate or butterfly to compare preassures. Is there a BOV that work in Diesels?

Pleeeease tell me more!!!

Intercooler and raising boost pressure etc seems fine but I am a bit concerned about the strenght of the 2C-T cylinder head. 2C, 2L and 1KZ type diesels (turbo ones) have weak cylinder heads which is prone to crack even without any mods...

Really? <_<

Anyway, I'm not looking for huge performance, because of that, its a Diesel. I only wanted to increase the poor 82cv to at least 95 cv and the torque from 17.9 Kgr to 18.5 kgr +/- . I'm also concerned about that. I use the car to go to work everyday, so I cant be a st :censor:d who blows his car for a unnecessary modification. it's in my plans to buy a car to modify and to prepare it to the edge.

Does anyone knows if a 2C-T has any electronics/chip or something, or its enterely mechanical the fuel injection? I guess it is mechanical.

Thanks Cal for your comments

sorry didnt explain very well. a bleed valve fits in the pipe from the actuator and the manifold/turbo all it does is bleed some of the boost signal away from the actuator to atmosphere to fool the actuator that the boost is lower than it is

1KZ a weak engine!! :o

I hope not, I am just buying a Hiace Super Custom fitted with a 3.0 1KZ, and seriously hope this does not suffer the head warping/cracking problem!!

Oh! I see... :)

To understand better how the valve works, it's a normally closed valve that in presence of preassure, releases some of it to the atmosphere?

It should have to be difficult to find it in the local market. Can you give me some advise about the brand and / or qualities???

Help is greatly appreciated

PD: Sorry for the late response, I was out for a couple of days.

Thanks
